F. Dickeson, photo. MARI WHAREPAPA, A FAMOUS MAORI CHIEF. The famous chieftain resides at Mangakahia, near Kaikohe, and is now 88 years of age. In 1803 he went to England, and was interviewed by the Prince of Wales, now His Majesty the King. He also dined with the late Queen Victoria, and visited Marlborough House. He married an English lady at Stepney, London, and returned with her to New Zealand. They have five daughters and 22 grand-children.
