July 30. Bridge Parties. , Last Monday evening Mrs. Hugh Baily entertained Dr. and Mrs. Walker, Dr. and Mrs. Wylie, and Mr. A. D. Gray and Mrs. Fitzherbert at bridge, and the two latter won the prizes. On the following Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Mrs. H. Baily gave a series of card parties.

The first (Wednesday) took the form of bridge, and was given as a welcome to Mrs. Newton King, who has just returned from a trip to the Old Country, and also as a farewell to Mrs. Gibbons, who leaves with her family on Monday for Auckland, which is to be her future home. There were eight tables, cards being played in the dining-room, which was prettily decorated with wattle and white camellias. Miss McKellar won the first prize, Mrs. Newton King coming second, and Mrs. Gibbons won the mystery prize. A most recherche supper was served in the drawing-room, the table being decorated with spring flowers and shaded silver candlesticks. Burgess, pretty canary-coloured satin with front panels of cream lace, appliqued with pale pink velvet; Miss Testar, black lace over silk; Miss Grant, black lace robe; Mrs. Clem Webster, white embroidered silk blouse, black silk skirt; Miss K. Hammerton, cinnamon brown silk voile; Mrs. Fraser, very pretty petuniacoloured Princess robe, trimmed with velvet of a darker shade; Miss Fraser, cream taffetas; Mrs. Bradbury, black silk; Mrs. Rudd, black silk, cream lace berthe, relieved with scarlet roses; Mrs. Addenbrooke, black lace over yellow silk; Mrs. A. B. Fookes, black silk; Mrs. J. Wilson, black voile, trimmed with chiffon and lace; Mrs. Fitzherbert, black taffetas, cream lace berthe; Mrs. Percy Webster, pale pink silk, trimmed with velvet and Maltese lace; Mrs. W. Bayly, brown and white striped taffetas with cream laee insertion on bodice; Mrs. A. D. Gray, black silk, white chiffon roses on corsage; Mrs. MeKellar, black taffetas; Miss MeKellar, black embroidered net, banded with velvet ribbon over a white silk foundation ; Miss Read, black silk; Miss Brett (Parnell), pale blue voile with silver sequined berthe; Miss Wade, white silk, relieved with heliotrope; Miss Brown, black silk, trimmed with lace and chiffon ; Mrs. Heard, pretty cream taffetas with front panel of lovely cream lace; Miss Stanford, black silk; Miss Humphries, black silk, veiled in sequined net. On Thursday Master Ronald Baily entertained hie friends at a euchre party and> dance, and the prizes were won by Mies Zaida Bayly and Mr. Hugh Fraser. Mrs. Baily wore a black chiffon over glace relieved with spray of lilac on corsage, and was assisted in the entertaining by Mesdames Percy and Clem Webster, the former wearing a pretty white embroidered muslin with black velvet Empire sash, while th e latter was robed in cream silk with pale pink roses on corsage; Miss D. Gibbons, pale blue muslin, trimmed with Valenciennes lace; Misses I. and S. Fitzherbert (2) wore pink taffetas; Miss M. Glasgow, white muslin, pink bows in hair; Miss G. Bewley, pale muslin trimmed with Valenciennes laee, blue bows in hair; Miss Z. Bayly silk; Miss W. Webster, white muslin, pale blue bows in hair; Miss G. Kyngdon, cream silk; Miss M. Dowling, white muslin, with scarlet bows; Miss W. Bradbury, white; Miss B. Mathews, cream silk, scarlet bows in hair.

Misses Dulcie and Ernestine Bayly bad a very enjoyable little euchre party on Friday night for their little school chums, and amongst the merry throng •were:—Miss Doris Bradbury, cream silk; Miss Doris Menzies, white silk and lace; Mias Inn. L«ng Night. The Misses Humphries’ long night was well patronised lest Tuesday, although the weather was stormy. The supper table was very prettily decorated with pale pink camellias. Master Hugh Fraser gave a very enjoyable euchre party at his pretty home, Waimare, last Monday evening in honour of Mr. Jack Gibbons. There were five tables, and the prizes were won by Mi.-s Doris Fitzherbert, and Messrs. Jack Gibbons and Deslie Tressider. Amongst those present were:—Misses L. and S. Fitzherbert, Miss M. Glasgow, Miss Z. Baily, Miss G. Kyngdon, Miss K. Penn, Miss G. Roy, Mies Cutfield, Miss K. Mills, Miss D. Gibbons, Miss B. Mathews.
