HASTINGS.

July 29. Hunt Club Races. The Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club races were held on the Hastings racecourse yesterday. The weather was delightfully fine, and the course was crowded. Among those present were: Lady Price. Mesdames W. G. Stead, Ormond, Lowry, Tosswill, Mackersey, Tod, Hassal, Clarke, Douglas, McKenzie, Pharazan. Raymond, Troutbeck, Misses Russell, Mason, Fitzroy, Austin, Macfarlane, Williams, McLean, Sunderland, Cooper, Nelson, Maokersey. Street Frocks. Mrs. Pharazan is wearing a very neat military blue tailor-made; Miss Russell, black coat and skirt, violet hat; Miss Peddie, grey costume and a dainty little hat with cherries; Mrs. Mackersey is wearing one of the new motor bonnets of a deep champagne shade of straw and silk with flowing veil to match, and it certainly looks very cosy; Misa Austin,

black tailor-made with pleated skirt, large pale mauve hat and scarf to match; Mrs. Macdonell, a chic costume of Hue 'Admiralty serge, rose satin Edna May hat, with black quills, waistcoat to correspond ; Mrs. Gascoyne, striped mole tweed coat and skirt, with black velvet collar and cuffs, becoming hat with dahlias in the new fuchsia shade; Mrs. Torranee was in Hastings last week wearing a lovely coat of brown sable, granny muff to match, and hat of China blue satin, with cockade of green feathers; Mrs. McLeod, a smart coat and skirt of dark blue, swathed navy hat with emerald wings; Miss Fitzroy, brown striped costume, hat with touches of tangerine; Miss Mason, mole costume, mushroom hat to match; Miss Rainbow, dainty coat and skirt of blue serge, hat to match.

Arrangements have been made by a committee, including Mrs. (Dr.) Macdonnell, Mrs. J. Miller, Mrs. Chas. Scott, Mrs. Beilby, Mrs. Mackersey and Mrs. Maddison, for a musical evening and social as a farewell to Rev. and Mrs. Kayll. Personal. Mr. Guy Shaw (nephew of Mr. G. P. Donnelly) has returned from Africa with his bride, and has settled at “Crissoge,” Hastings. Mrs. and Miss B. Peddie have returned to Hastings. Miss Duckie had the misfortune to be seized with a severe attack of pleurisy while on a holiday to Christchurch, but I am glad to learn she is convalescent. Great sympathy is felt for Mr. Gray (rector of the Heretaunga School) in the death of his wife, who bore her long illness so patiently.
