DOLLY VALE.

July 23. Afternoon Tea. A delightful afternoon tea was given by Dr. and Mrs. Crooke at the “Cadena” Tea Rooms in Cashel-street. The pretty room was charmingly arranged with small tables and low wicker chairs. The decorations were small palms and yellow chrysanthemums and holly berries. Mrs. Crooke wore a tailor-made navy blue cioth coat and skirt, black hat with pale blue ostrich feathers. The guests included: Mrs. George Rhodes, Mrs. Gower Burns, Mrs. Westenra, Mrs. H. H. At the Art Gallery a dance was given on Thursday evening by the art students, several of whom wore fancy dress. The dance was a great success, and was largely attended. About 200 were present. The chaperones were Mrs. Alfred. Evans, whose gown was of heliotrope merv. trimmed with violet velvet and Maltese lace; Mrs. Page, blaek silk and lace; Mrs. Mills, black taffeta, with, sequin trimming; Mrs. Lonsdale, black silk. Golf. The final of the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Championship was played at the Shirley Links on Monday afternoon. The match was won by Miss Cowlishaw after a very close game. She beat Miss Rutherford on the nineteenth green. On Wednesday the monthly medal match was played at Shirley. Miss D. Wood won in the senior and Mrs. Borthwick in the junior division. PersonaL Mrs. Boyle has returned to Christchurch from 'Wellington. Sir George and Lady Clifford (Stoneyhurst) are spending the winter months in Christchurch at their Fendalton residence, “Avonholme.” Mr. and Mrs. George Hanmer (Christchurch) have gone on a trip to the South Sea Islands. Miss Julius (Christchurch) is visiting friends in South Canterbury. Mrs. E. C. Studholme (Waimate) is in Christchurch. Miss Westmacott (Temuka) is in Christchurch, the guest of Mrs. 11. P. Hill. Mrs. M. Lewin (Methven) and Mrs. Fowler (Ceylon) arrived in Christchurch to-day from Ceylon. Mr. and Mrs. W. Reece and Miss Reece returned to-day from their visit to England. Miss Nancarrow (Christchurch) is visiting with friends in Wellington. Mrs. T. Williamson (England) is the guest of Mrs. Beswick at Merivale. Mr. and Mrs. E. Harper (Fairlie) are staying with Mrs. Gassett at the vicarage (Merivale)".
