KARANGAH AKE— A PROSPEROUS AND ACTIVE MINING CENTRE.
The Karangahakp Gorge, on the road between Paeroa and Waihi. presents varied scenes of beauty and mining industry. The ohinemuri River, which flows through the Gorge, contains a most difficult problem for the future in the thousands of tons of silt which have been discharged into the river from the great batteries situated on its banks. The silt lias been tilling up the river for years, and in time of flood is carried over the low-lying lands with disastrous results fiom an agricultural point of view. Several schemes have been propounded for dealing with this question, but up to the present a satisfactory solution has not been arrived at. ill The township of Karangahake. i2» The Crown Battery.
