RUGBY. Auckland, WINS FOR CITY, PARNELL, AND PONSONBY. The Rugby Union ebampionsbips were continued on Saturday The weather was dull and threatening, but, fortunately, very liftle rain fell, and the pray did not suffer to any great extent. Interest in the various matches was not very keen, and the attendance at both Alexandra Park and North Shore was moderate. On No. 1 ground a*t Epsom Parnell turned the tables on University, beating the students by 8 to 3, after a dull and uninteresting game. City scored a runaway victory over Newton by 31 points to nil, while Ponsonby registered the cricket score of 61 points to nil against North Shore. At Epsom in the junior division the sensation of th© afternoon was the defeat of the Marist Bros, (who were well in the running for the junior cup), at the hands of Newton, the red and whites triumphing by 11 points to nil. In the secondary schools’ competition only one match was played, King’s College maintaining their unbeaten record by running up the large score of 56 to nil against t. John’s. RESULTS AT A GLANCE. Suburbs beat County in the senior match, 15 to nil. Tries were scored by Lanigan (3), Graham and Fleming. None were converted. First Juniors.—County and City-Suburbs (combined) had a draw, no score Second Juniors.—County 6, Suburbs 3. Napier. NAPIER, Saturday. Old Boys (8) defeated Kia Ora 5. Thia was the only game played. Despite light drizzling rain, and the greasy state of the grounds, the Otago Rugby Union decided to proceed with the first, second, and third grade matches. Alhambra added to their unbeaten record by defeating Pirates by 18 to nil. It was a runaway game. The winners scored 9 points in each spell. This game was played Irr four twenties. Port Chalmers and Taieri Rovers played an even game. Each side had a penalty goal, and then the marine representatives settled the issue by nicking a try. Zingari-Richmond (11) defeated Dunedin (3). It was a mod scramble. All the scoring was done in the final spell. Southern (G) beat Union (3). Scientific football was out of the question on the north, ground. Kaikorai (14) beat University (nil). Professional Football. The New Zealand team (Northern Union rules) beat Queensland on June 23 by 21 points to 19. New Zealanders Beaten. Australia beat New Zealand by 10 points to o on June 27. Caledonian had a good tussle with Y.M.C.A., and won by 4 goals to nil, and I'onsonby had the upper hand nt the Rhore, beating the home team by b goals to nil. SECOND GRADE. North Shore v. Gordon..- After a rathd one-sided game, North Shore won by 9 eon Is to 2. For the winners goats were by Maeky (4), I* Smith (2>, Wallaeet and Stewart. Guild v. St David’s. —Thia match resulted In a draw, each side scoring three goal*. Guild’s goats were scored by Blincve, Klngfc and McGowen. -

Carlton had rather the better of their rie with W.Y.M.L, eventnattjr wtnaiug five goals to one. The scorers for Corfton were Nyberg (2), C. Barton (2>, and itorspool, and for W.Y.M.1., Booth. This game ended 4 —o in favour of Corinthians. Goafs were scored by Greaves (2), Kecleston, and Wilkins. THIRD GRADE. St. John’s College beat Mt. Albert by 4 goals to 3. Goals were scored for St. John's by Robertson, Dentitb, Budd, and Worley. North Shore beat Y.M.C.A. by 3 goals to one. The scorers for the winners were: Card no (2) and Woolley (1). The match, Guild v. St. David’s resulted in a draw, each side scoring 3 goals. FOURTH GRADE. Carlton v. Gordon.—Cnrltou won by two goals to nil. Burton and Pratt scored for Carlton. North Shore beat W.Y.M.I. very easily by seven goals to nil.
