THE N.Z. POLO TOURNAMENT AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

The New Zealand Polo Association’s twentieth annual tournament was played at Palmerston North this week. Splendid weather was experienced throughout. Some very close contests were fought for the Handicap Cup. On Wednesday there were two exceptionally tight and very exciting finishes. Manawatu A (2 points handicap) and Christchurch (16) provided an interesting game. Manawatu had evened up the scores when the last spell was commenced, and scored the winning goal before the call of time. The game ended: Manawatu A. 17; Christchurch, 16. Mangaheia (6) and Hawke's Bay B (7) fought out a dingdong even contest, which resulted in Hawke’s Bay winning by 11 to 10. Next day Parawanui (10) beat Fern Flats (8), and Hawke’s Bay B (7) beat Manawa to A (2) by 11 to 10. The finals were played on Saturday afternoon. The prizes were presented to the winners by Lady Plunket.

Hawke’s Bay A Team, winners of the Savile Cup la.-t year, who defeated Rangitikei by 5 goals to 2 goals, ami thus hold the championship for another year. Team: W . C. A. McKenzie, J. ]). Ormond, <). Nelson and 11. A. Russell.

For the third year in succession the final for the Savile Cup was between Hawke's Bay A. who had won the trophy twice running, and Rangitikei. Rang) tikei were again defeated, this time by 5 goals to 2 goals. 'l’he Handicap Cup was won by Parewanni (Rangitikei), with a handicap of 10. who defeated Hawke's Bay B (handicap 7 ) by 1 4 goals to 11.
