March 1&. Napier Park Races. *lt was unfortunate it rained both days of the Park races, and although the costumiers and milliners had been busy for some weeks preparatory to the event, only very few ladies donned their new autumn costumes, rain cloaks and motor scarves covering most toilettes. Some of the costumes visible were very smart. Mrs. Williamson looked exceedingly stylish in a striped grey and black worsted, revers and collar of bottle green velvet, and touched with striped black and ■white silk, hat of a soft brown and saxe blue straw, with large wings of blue, geranium pink, and canary, the combination of colours being most effective and new; Miss Russel, a striped mole tweed, with burnt, straw hat and black quills; Mrs. Nantes (Napier), black gown, large black hat with crimson blossoms; Miss Austin, black costume, black velvet collar and revers, saxe blue hat with black quills—most becoming; Mrs. W. Stead, brown serge, hat of navy blue swathed with silk to match; Mrs McVay (Napier) wore black, bonnet relieved with heliotrope; Mrs. Lowry, navy costume, trimmed with bands of black silk, black hat wreathed in white blossoms; Mrs. Scott, smart myrtle cloth Directoire gown, becoming hat to match, crowned with soft plumes; Mrs. Newbegin looked dainty in a saze blue frock, large black picture hat; 'Mrs. Reid, cornflower, blue linen frock, hat trimmed with cornflowers; Mrs. Ray (Victoria), grey tweed costume, hat with large black wings; Miss St. George (West Coast), black Eton coat and skirt, white hat; Mi>s Evans, hazel green tweed, stylish J»lack hat; Mrs. Reynolds (Gisborne), grey striped costume, emerald green straw hat; Mrs. Gilbertson (Waipukurau), black gown, pretty black mushroom hat with black wings; Mrs. Rathbone (Waipawa), black costume, hat trimmed with navy blue silk; Mrs. Landals.
