Bear Bee, December 18. MR. 11. E. GUNTER'S PUPILS, or, I should say, advanced pupils, gave a most successful concert in the Municipal Hall on last Thursday night. The attendance was largo and enthusiastic. The opening item of the programme was a duet, Chaminade’s “Andante ami Sreherzett ino.” played by Miss Marjory Barnicoat and Miss <'ora Humphries. Other items were Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude.” by Miss Vera Humphries, Chopin's “Impromptu in A Elat” by Miss Gw lady s Grant, and a duet on two pianos, “Lc Matin.” by the Misses Mabel Evans and Nora St. Hill. Mr. Gunter’s own contribution received the ovation of the evening. I he vocalists were all wellknown and popular local singers. Mrs.

Harper sang “Crossing the Bar,” and response io an encore, “My Fairest Child” (Hill). Miss Gladys Drew sang Tosti’s “Good-bye,” and as an encore “The Beautiful Land of Nod” (Greene). Mr. J. Rogers, who was in splendid voice, gave “Manuelita” (Trotere) and responded to an encore with Noel Johnston’s “Music- When Soft Voices Die.” Mr. Spencer Watson sang first “Awake” ;(Belissier) and as an encore “A Lament” '(Lambert). A few amongst the audience were: Air. and Mrs. Watson. Miss Watson, Air. and Mrs. St. Hill. Mr. and Mrs. McPherson. Mr. and Mrs. Barnieoat, Mrs. O’Brien and Miss Mona OBrien. Mrs. Loughnan, Miss Ab-Lean. Mrs. MeKnight, Mi's. Gully (Masterton), the Misses Abraham, the Misses Bell. Mrs. C. Smith and Miss Mabel Smith. Mrs. R. Laery, the Misses Reed, the Misses Fraser and girls front Craven College. The matches are still going on merrily AT THE TENNIS COURTS and are reaching the semi-final stage. A great many were got off. on Saturday afternoon. On the lawn I noticed Airs. Barnieoat, Airs. F. S. Mcßae, Mrs. N. L. Fitzherbert, Airs. Atorrah, Airs. MeKnight, Airs. Gully (Masterton). Airs. Bendall, Airs. D. Reed. Airs. Randolph, Mrs. A. D. Thompson. Airs. Rendell. Airs. Adams, Airs. Pickett, the Aliases Wilson, Lord, Randolph (2). F. Waldegrave, I. Webster (Wellington), Porter, M. Waldegrave, Warburton, , and many others. The Misses Fraser, of Craven College, gave THEIR ANNUAL “BREAKING-UP” PARTY in the Municipal Hall on Friday night. There was dancing and the usual juvenile games, and a wonderful supper, which seems the most prominent feature -of the party in the minds of the younger guests. The older girls present included the Misses Alison. Barnieoat. Sybil and Sylvia Abraham. Gladys Smith. Dorothy and May Alorrah. Dorothy Tripe. Gladys and Ina Moore. Aileen MeKnight. Noeline Keeling. Kathleen Lang, etc., etc. PERSONAL NOTES. ATiss Irene Webster (Wellington) is spending a fortnight with Airs. H. Waldegrave, Park-road. Airs. F. S. Aleßae has returned from a short trip to Nelson. Airs. Alorrah, who has l>een visiting her son, Air Atorrah. Bank of Australasia, has returned to Wellington.
