WELLINGTON ROSE AND CARNATION SHOW. Till*; BEST HELD BY THE EMPIRE C!TY CLUB. SPLENDID SPEiiTACILAR SHOW OF FLOW ERS. it is the universal opinion of experts mid amateurs alike that never has there been a November mhovi of flowers in Wellington to equal that which took place last week under the auspices of the Rose and Carnation Club. The season lias been extremely favourable, and the good weather continued up till the very last, blooms being* gathered in perfect condition, undamaged by rain or wind, and not. burned 01 scorched by excessive sun. The arrangements in general and the taste displayed in staging exhibits added very much to the aesthetic attractiveness. of the show. It was too early for sweet peas, but the roses were exceedingly fine, and the carnations, though not as numerous as could be desired, made a notable show. So far as roses were concerned, Mrs J. G. Wilson, of Bulls, carried neavy honours with her exhibits. Her * champion bloom, for which she was awarded the Rose Society’s, silver medal, was a magnificent specimen, and several of her other- blooms were generally admired. Very fine displays were also exhibited by the horticultural staff at Bellevue Gardens. Messrs TlJorton, of Pahiatua, Laird, of Wanganui, and others. Mrs Hamilton Gilmer exhibited a striking display of pot plants, while Mr Poole’s pot plant exhibit was also much admired. Mr F ix’s pelargoniums were greatly and deservedly admired.
