Monsieur Francois Bonnet, of the Fcole iPolytechnique, Paris, and the universities of Munich, Germany, and of Berkeley, San Francisco, claims to have solved the problem of continual youth and a lengthened existence. To a large gathering of scientists in San Francisco, M. (Bonnet voiced the praises of a new product of science, that might be designated “the anti-toxin of old age.” He showed a bottle filled with a liquid containing millions of "good” microbes, said to have the power to kill the "bad” microbes of old age. He declared that investigation was leading scientists to believe that death was caused by a ferment in the body, which could be combated by lactic acids, and when the subject is thoroughly understood, he saya a life of 150 years’ duration will be common. There are two ferments in the body, the speaker averred, one producing life and one ending it. Theoretically, an equilibrium could be established, and Ufa .held stationary, or the tide turned the other way, and childhood regained. Ladies, ever anxious to retain the bloom of youth and add to their charms, flocked to hear the distinguished professor's claims, and were anxious to learn when tho new endless life compound would be obtainable in the market.
