GISBORNE.

Dear Bee, August 6. The last hunt of the season was held on Saturday last at Mr. Monckton’s homestead at Te Karaka. and to-day was to have witnessed THE HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASE MEETING, but, owing to the terrific storm, it has been postponed until Saturday, when the members of the Hunt Club hope for better luck. The weather, I am afraid, will also deter a good many- countrypeople from attending the Benedicts’ Ball, which is to come off to-morrow (Friday) night. THE LADIES' BRIDGE CLUB held their afternoon at Mrs. F. B. Barker’s residence, “Te Hapara,” last Monday, when there was a good attendance of players. The next meeting is at Mrs. A. Rees, Monday, the 10th inst. PERSONAL NOTES. The lion. Cant. Tucker, Air. Christophers, and Air. Sydney Williamson arrived in Gisborne last Saturday from the South. Air. Sydney Williamson intends cutting up his Ngatapa property. Mrs. J. W. Williams arrived in Gisborne last Sunday after a short visit to Auckland. Airs. Williams accompanied her sister. Aliss Al. Williamson, to Auckland, the latter being on her way- to Sydney and Alelbournc. Mr. Howden, who was resident in Gisborne for some time, is visiting friends here just now. Air. W. N. Barron, for three and a-half years on the staff of the Bank of Australasia, Gisborne, has received notice of his transfer to Napier. Mr. Barron, besides being an enthusiastic golfer and tennis player, is very popular, land his departure from Gisborne is keenly- regretted by a wide circle of friends. Air. and Airs. Cotterill (East Coast, Gisborne) left on Wednesday last to visit Auckland during the visit of the American Fleet. Mr. Kissling (Gisborne) leaves for Auckland on Saturday. Mr. Kissling joins his wife, who has been visiting her brother, Dr. Purchas (Auckland). Air. and Mrs. Shcrratt returned on Wednesday from a visit to Napier. Mr. F. J. Lysnar (Gisborne) is at present. visiting Auckland.
