Dear Bee, July IC. THE GISBORNE ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY is again coming to the front. Last Tuesday night the Society presented a most attractive musical programme at His Majesty’s Theatre to a large and enthusiastic audience, despite the fact that tickets of admission were only available to subscribers. This Society has just started on the subscription basis, and already has close on two hundred subscribers, showing that Gisborne is not behind the times in its appreciation of good music. The enthusiasm displayed by the large audience on Tuesday must have been very gratifying to Mr. Mainland Foster, the conductor, and the indi-

vidual members of the Orchestral Society. The Society was assisted by Mr. Harold Piper and Miss Jean- Dunsmuir, both of Hawke’s Bay. Miss Dunsmuir ■was gowned in cream satin, covered with cream and silver sequin net, berthe of silver and gold sequins with a mass of dark crimson roues at the corsage, the gown being finished with sash and long ends of black velvet ribbon; Mrs. Mainland Foster, the accompanists, wore a soft black silk gown, distinguishing touches of white on the bodice. Amongst the audience I noticed present: Mrs. A. Rees, cream silk, pale blue lace-caped opera coat; Mrs. Hawkins (Auckland), black silk, pale grey theatre coat; Mrs. White, black silk; Mrs. Barton, black silk, pale bine wrap; Mrs. Palairet, black silk, cream and turquoise velvet trimmed wrap; Mrs. Barker, black silk, pale grey coat with broad lace cape; Miss Rees, soft white silk gown, grey crepe de chine cape; Miss Foster, cream satin, trimmed cinnamon lace insertion; Miss Foster (Wellington), white silk; Mrs. Coleman, black silk; Miss Coleman, pale yellow silk with lace berthe; Miss Murray, navy voile, laee yoke; Mrs. Traill, cream silk and lace; Miss de Latour, white silk gown; Mrs. Mann, cream voile opera coat, cream cashmere, pale blue velvet revers; Mrs. Williams, cream-silk, long pale grey coat with laee capes; Miss Hamilton, cream silk and laee; Miss Atkinson (Christchurch), white silk gown; Miss Day, cream silk, laee embroidered overdress, pale grey lace-cov-ered eoat; Mrs. Nolan, black and white silk; Miss Nolan, soft black silk gown, white lace vest; Mrs. Seymour, white silk; Mrs. Boulnois (Christchurch), cream lace-covered gown; Miss Boulnois (Christchurch), pale blue dress, laee yoke and trimmings of lace. A SMALL AFTERNOON TEA was given on Friday last by Mrs. W. L. Rees for Mrs. Hawkins, of Auckland, who is at present spending a short spell day with her sister, Mrs. Arthur Rees, of Gisborne. PERSONALS. Mr. and Mrs. F. Parker, who have been touring Australia, returned on Wednesday last. Mr. and Mrs. de Latour, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. de Latour on the East Coast, returned last Sunday to Gisborne. Mrs. Lanauze (Hastings) is at present visiting her daughter, Mrs. Margoliouth (Gisborne ). Miss Beatson (Napier), who has been visiting friends in Gisborne, returned South by the Waikare on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Kennedy, of Gisborne, left for Napier last Sunday to attend the marriage of their niece (Miss Duleie Kennedy) to Mr. G. N. G. Arber, of Cambridge. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy returned home on Wednesday.
