Dear Bee, June 2. A SMALL BRIDGE PARTY was goven by Mrs C. Reid, of Riccarton, on Saturday night. The guests included Lady Mills, Mrs Wardrop, Mrs and the Misses Kettle, Mrs T. Cowlishaw, Mrs Pyne, and Mrs Beswick. On Monday night Mrs Thomas, “Carlton,” gave A SMALL BRIDGE PARTY. The players were Mrs Wood, Mrs Wilson, Miss Wilson, the Misses Nedwill, Mrs Nancarrow, Mrs Condell, and Miss Anderson. AN EVENING PARTY was given by Mrs George Helmore, Gloucester-street, on Tuesday evening, when several card games were played, among others being a very amusing one called “Ricketty Anne” (a great change from the universal bridge), and one that seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by the young people. The prize, an elegantly bound volume of poems, was won by Miss Helmore, and the booby prize by Mrs Crooke.

GOLF. On Friday afternoon there were a large number of competitors out on the Shirley Links. In the first grade, Mrs Michael Campbell sent in the best score, Mrs T. Cowlishaw coming second. In the second grade, Mrs Nancarrow and Miss Murray-Aynsley tied for first place. The monthly medal match, played at Shirley on Tuesday, June 2nd, resulted in a tie between Miss N. Reeves and Miss Kettle, and the winner in the second grade was Miss Freda Moore. THE LADIES MUSICAL CLUB held their meeting at Mrs Cook’s house in Cranmer-square, when a delightful musical programme was given. Among the performers were Miss Cook (piano), Miss Lucy Cook (violin), Mrs Gower Burns, the Misses Burns, and others contributed solos and duets. PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. Mr and Mrs Ronald Duncan (Christchurch) left to-day on a visit to Sydney. Mr and Mrs Wilfred Stead were passengers by the Mooltan, which reached Freemantle last week, and they are expected to arrive in Christchurch early this month. Mrs Bealey (Horarata) has been the guest of Miss Izard at Worcester-street, Christchurch. Airs E. V. Palmer (Gisborne) is staying with Mrs Joseph Palmer at “Woodford,” Papanui. Mrs Larnaeh, of Dunedin, has been the guest of Mrs John Deans at Riccarton. Mrs Waite (Otago) is visiting friends in Christchurch. Miss Macdonald and Miss Hill have returned to Christchurch from their visit, to Methven, where they were the guests of Mrs Duncan Cameron. Miss Rita Wilson • (Christchurch) left to-day on a visit to Timaru. Mrs Loughnan (Christchurch) is staying with friends in Timaru.
