In order to give readers of the “Graphic” a closer persona] interest in its contents, and to stimulate the spirit of emulation, we have resolved to offer Prizes to the winners in a series of Competitions, the first of which are announced hereunder. The conditions are simple. The Competitions are Open to all, without entrance fee; they are free from the gambling element, requiring only moderate ability, skill, or judgment on the part of competitors; and the Prizes are such as should encourage budding talent. The first series of Four Competitions,extending over the month of April, is as follows.—• COMPETITION NO..I—THE THREE BEST NOVELS. Readers are invited to name the THREE BEST NOVELS by British or American authors. The competitor who names the three (or, failing that, two out of the three) chosen by the majority will receive as a prize A YEAR’S SUBSCRIPTION TO THE “GRAPHIC,” VALUE £l. COUPON. The verse may be a Limerick, an Epigram, a Humorous Incident described, a Comment on Events of the Day, or any other form of Funnyism. No Coupon is required. Ist Prize—A YEAR’S SUBSCRIPTION TO THE “ GRAPHIC,” value £1 2nd Prize—FlVE SHILLINGS IN CASH. Competition verses, with names and addresses of competitors attached, and addressed “ Competition No. 2, ‘ Graphic’ Office, Auckland,” must reach us not later than FRIDAY, APRIL 10th. The result will be announced in the “ Graphic ” of April 18th. All verses sent in may be published by the Proprietors of the “ Graphic.” Competitors who may not wish their names published with their verses should sign the latter with a nom de plume and attach their real name and address. While clipped Paragraphs are allowed, “ Chestnuts” will have little chance of winning a Prize. The ends to be aimed at ar« Brevity, Novelty, Humour and Point.
