The Englishwoman's Com= plexion.

An English lady writes complaining that the women of her nation are fast losing the clear pink-and-white complexions which have been their great charms and for which they are fanions all the world over. This is a serious matter, if true, and on the authority of beauty specialists and others it would seem that there is reason for complaint, and Englishwomen will ere long lose the supremacy for beauty which they have so long held by reason of their beautiful complexions. It is recorded of an old exiled Frenchman that when he felt a little disconsolate he would go out and feast himself with a contemplation of the red and white of the English tint —and was consoled for the loss of “la belle France.” And the reason advanced for this loss of beauty is the excessive indulgence in outdoor sports—hockey, golf, motoring, etc.—as well as increasing fondness for masculine fare—richly-seasoned, highly-spiced savouries, smoking, etc. On the other hand, though, we must admit she has gained in health and vigour, as well as in judgment and mental balance, from the greater freedom now allower her, and nothing in the world is without its drawbacks. ® © ©
