THE MODERN ANDROMEDA.
Andromeda was chained to a rock to appease the wrath of a monster whom the sea-god Neptune had let loose upon the Ethiopians because it was said that she was more beautiful than bis daughters the Nereids, or even than Juno. The modern Andromeda, however, differs from her ancient prototype. Nowadays she does her own padlocking, puts the key in her pocket, and then remonstrates angrily with the Perseus who, in the shape of a policeman, comes to her rescue. The Greek myth turned the happy pair into stars. Is this prophetic of the ultimate glorification of the suffragette? (From the “Pali Mall Gazette.”)'
