Dear Bee, February 14. AN AFTERNOON PARTY was given on Friday -by Miss Gerard at her residence, Fendalton. The hostess was wearing a pretty pale green linen pinafore frock, and large black hat. Miss R. Gerard, a becoming costume of old rose colour, black and pink hat. Amongst the guests were:—Mrs G. Gerard in a pale blue cloth dress, large white picture hat with touches of blue; Miss Reeves, black and white muslin, white hat; Mrs L. Rutherford, a floral muslin worn over green silk, white and green hat; Mrs Rutherford, dark blue silk dress, shaded blue hat to match; Mrs John Deans, rich black taffetas, black and white toque; Miss Park, white muslin dress, white hat with shaded red roses; Miss Cracroft Wilson, white doth costume, hat with pink roses; Miss Murray-Aynsley, a frock of floral voile, hat with roses to match; Mrs A. Muray-Aynsley, mauve muslin dress, mauve hat; Mrs J. Bond, cream cloth coat and skirt, cream hat; Mrs Archer, black and white spotted muslin, black hat. A TENNIS CROQUET AND PUTTING PARTY was given by Mrs George G. Stead at Strowan on Wednesday. The weather was lovely, and the beautiful garden (in spite of the dry season) was lovely too. Several people took part in a croquet tournament; others, more energetic, played tennis. The putting competition proved most exciting. It was won by Mrs Michael Campbell, Mrs Kettle coming second. Mrs Stead, who received her guests on the lawn, wore an elegant costume of dark blue and green voile, green and blue hat; Mrs Harold Johnstone (Wellington), white voile over white silk, black and white hat; Mrs Michael Campbell, tailor-made costume of black cloth, black and white hat; Mrs Gower Burns, a brown and white tweed coat and skirt, green hat; Mrs Bettington (Sydney), black silk dress, violet bonnet; Mrs Kettle, pale grey crepe de chine, black hat; Mrs J. C. Palmer, white muslin frock, green hat with red roses; Mrs Henry Wood, black alpaca dress, black and white hat; Mrs Beals, white linen costume, green hat; Mrs Wilding, grey taffeta with black toque. Others present were:—The Misses Bettington (Sydney), Miss Bell (Wellington), Misses Burns (2), Misses Campbell (2), Miss Wilding, and the Misses Kettle. A GIRL’S AFTERNOON was given on Friday by Miss Betty Meares at Fendalton, when several sets of tennis were played. The guests included : The Misses Humphreys (2), the Misses Bloxam (2), Seeretan (2), Miss Marjorie Turnbull, Miss McMillanBrown, Miss Devenish-Meares, and Miss Janet Ogle. Miss Helmore, “Millbrook,” and Mrs. George Helmore have sent out invitations for a garden party. Small tennis parties, which have taken place during the week, were given by Mrs Wilding (Opawa), Mrs. T. Cowlishaw (Merivale), Mrs. Wigram (Park Terrace), and Mrs. J. C. Palmer (Gloucesterstreet). A CROQUET TOURNAMENT which has been in progress for some time, was concluded on Wednesday, when Mrs.

The boats started from the Canterbury Rowing Shed at Avonside and proceeded for some distance down the river; the row was most enjoyable. Songs were sung, and a merry time was spent, after which the guests returned to supper at Mrs. Michael Campbell’s residence, Avonside.
