The High Directoire Collar.
There is an exceedingly beautiful garnet shade, known as faded rose, which produces an excellent effect in cashmere de soie, worn with a coat of striped garnet and grey velvet. The new collar appertains to this garment, a high Directoire affair made of velvet turned over and fastened down in front with superb
buttons. The collar does not meet under the chin, an opening affording a sight of a beautifully arranged jabot of tine cream lace beneath it. The latest coats are cut away very abruptly from the front, and at the back a high-waisted appearance is produced by means of a deft management of the stripes of the material, or of the fur, as the ease may be.
Our picture shows that popular combination ninon and cloth. In colour it is a dull soft pink, and the buttons which just hold the bodice across the bust are of oxydised silver, held with small silver braids. Silver also embroiders the little waistcoat of taffetas, a paler pink than the gown, and this faint shade is again repeated in the chiffon collar-band and vest and undersleeves. 'fluhat is of pale pink chip, lined with black silk, and covered with pale pink feathers.
