NAPIER.

Dear Bee, November 29. The chief event I have to tell you about this week is A VERY BIG BAZAAR IN AID OF THE FUNDS OF THE NAPIER HOSPITAL. It was held in the Garrison Hall last Wednesday, and was opened by Lady Ward, who kindly came all the way from Wellington to perform the ceremony. The large hall was beautifully decorated, and the stalls were covered with useful articles. Mesdames Coleman, Nairn, Lowry, Rutledge, McLean, Inglis, Simcox and Handyside were the holders of the Country Stall and all wore the costume of Puritans. This stall was very attractive and consisted mostly of beautiful articles from Liberty’s. The produce stall was under the control of Mesdames Westall, Duncan, Misses Dean, Fannin, Shaw, and Todd, who were all dressed as English Dairy Maids and looked very becoming. The Hastings Stall, which was managed by Lady Russell, Mesdames Nelson, Tosswill, and Thompson, Misses Williams, Russell, Nelson, and Cross was also very attractive, and the (jpstumes worn by the holders was that of a hospital nurse. Toys and sweets (20th century costume), Messrs. Crandy, Roswarne, Burgess, .Sweetapple, McKay, and Absolum. Napier stall (French revolution costumes) was under the control of Mesdames Hill, Wilson, Misses Hill, Denton and Baker. Dainty tea rooms were erected on the stage and were managed by Mrs. Levin, MissesLocking, Ruddock, Hoadley, McLean, and Balharry. They wore very becoming Dutch costumes. The large flower stall was also very attractive, the costume worn being Little Miss Muffet. Mrs. Wills, Misses Honor, Sweetapple, Hutchinson, Murphy, and Amner. Christmas Tree (Kate Greenaw'V costumes), Misses Jones, Mountfort, and Retemyer. On the opening day I noticed Lady Ward wearing a beautiful silk taffeta costume, hat with pink rose, and white furs; Miss Ward, old rose cloth costume, black picture hat with plumes, Mrs. F. Williams, grey cloth costume, black and white toque; Mrs. R. D. D. McLean, navy blue silk voile costume, picture hat with large plumes; Lady Russell, handsome black silk costume, black bonnet; Mrs. Wood, pretty grey crepe de chine frock, black toque; Mrs. Donnelly, black glace, silk dress trimmed with handsome lace, black hat-, Mrs. Perry, black crepe de chine frock, large black picture hat; Mrs. Boys, pretty blue Eton costume, hat to match with large bows; Mrs. Sanders, lavender silk muslin trimmed daintily with lace, large black picture hat; Mrs. Russell, navy blue silk taffeta frock, green floral hat; Miss Johnston, white embroidered muslin frock, smart black taffeta sash, white picture hat; Mrs. Robjohns, brown silk taffe'a dress with brown floral toque; Mrs. Davidson, dainty black and white checked silk frock, black plumed toque; Mrs. Snodgrass, stylish grey doth coat and skirt, black picture hat with long black feather; Mrs. Edgar, blaek and white check rostnme, hat trimmed with black taffeta ribbon and pink roses; Mrs. L. Kennedy, grey Redingote costume, green hat; Miss llitehings, black silk taffeta frock trimmed with black velvet ribbon, pink floral hat; Mrs. Grosse, pretty pale grey crepe de chine frock, blaek picture hat; Mrs, Mayne, grey and blaek costume trimmed with black lace, blaek toque; Mrs. A’Deane, white embroidered muslin frock, green hat; Mrs. O’Neill, blaek silk frock, blaek picture hat; Mrs. Troutbeck, black glace silk costume, green hat; Miss Nairn, brown tweed costume with brown floral hat; Miss McLernon, pink striped linen frock, green hat; Miss Heath, grey costume with red hat; Miss Hindmarsh, dainty white muslin frock with white hat; Mrs. Brewer, navy blue voile frock, floral hat; Miss Handyside, white linen costume, green hat.
