AUCKLAND PROVINCE. Mr. R. Cleland, formerly dwner of the Melbourne Cup winner (Apologue) returned from Sydney by the Manuka. Mrs. Calder, wife of Archdeacon Calder, returned to Auckland by the Southern Cross from Norfolk Island last week. Miss Maggie I’apakura, the wellknown guide, left on her return to Rotorua by the express last week. Mrs. James Hally, of Cambridge, is at present staying with her daughter, Mrs. C. Stewart, in Auckland. Archdeacon and Mrs. Willis, of Cambridge, are on a visit to Te Aroha for the benefit of the former’s health. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thomson, of Inglewood, returned to Auckland on Sunday from a trip to Australia. Mrs. T. Cotter and Miss Cotter, who. have been on a visit to Sydney, returned by the Manuka on Sunday. The Misses Wells, of “Oakleigh,” Cambridge, are in Auckland, having come down to be present at Miss Jennie Prater’s wedding. Dr. S. Lawrence. Harke, M.A., 8.L., Cambridge, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., London and Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine arrived in Auckland on Sunday by the s.’s. Cornwall. Dr. Harke intends settling in this country. It is announced that the Rev. K. H. Cathcrwood, of St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Great North-road, has resigned on account of ill-health. Mr. Catherwood is visiting the South at present. We are informed by Captain Boscawen, honorary A.D.C. to his Excellency the Governor, that Lord and Lady Plunket and family will arrive in Auckland on 3rd December, on a visit of some months’ duration. Mr. J. E. D. Spicer, chief clerk of the Auckland branch of the Agricultural Department (son of the late Mr. A. 11. Spieer, of Auckland), was married at St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, on November 20, to Miss Ella Adams, only Mr. M. G. McGregor, who has been engaged on legal business in Wellington, returned to Auckland last week. Mr. McGregor, as a member of the Northern Shipowners’ Federation, interviewed the Minister in charge of the Packet Licenses Bill, assuring him that the shipowners were quite willing to take the responsibility for the licenses.

Inspector Cullen returned on Saturday evening from a week’s tour of inspection round the King Country stations, his visit extending to beyond Raurimu. Mr. Cullen says that the strike reports in connection with the employment of Austrians on the railway formation works there have been very much exaggerated, the men, when he passed through, all being at work, and apparently tolerablycontented with their working conditions, with the exception of a few malcontents. The rails are now laid over the Spiral, and the inspector, who rode down it from Raurimu on a ballast truck, speaks enthusiastically of the outlook to be obtained from the railway carriage. HAWKE'S BAY PROVINCE. Mrs Shoot, bf Palmerston Noith, is on a visit to Napier. Miss S. Dinwiddie, of Napier, is on a visit to Dunedin. Miss A. Scale has returned to Napier after spending some months in Auckland. Miss Ferguson, of Auckland, is on a visit to Napier. Canon Take, of Napier, is on a visit to Wellington. Mrs Kettle is absent from Napier on a visit to Pourere. Miss Day has returned to Gisborne from a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Miss Hitchings, of Levin, is on a visit to Mrs Edgar, Napier. Miss Mac Lean, assistant inspector of hospitals and charitable institutions, is on a visit to Napier. Mrs Keeling, of Palmerston North, is on a visit to Napier, and is staying at the Masonic Hotel. Mrs Bygum, who has been in Napier for some weeks, has returned to her home in Wairoa. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Russell have returned to Napier from Australia, after a delightful holiday. Mrs A. Campbell has returned to Napier after spending some weeks in the South. Mrs Brewer, who has been on a visit to Napier, has returned to her home in Dunedin. Mrs Rodie has left .Napier for Auckland, where she intends .spending a short holiday. Miss Jardine has returned to Napier after spending some weeks in Waipukurau. Mrs Gore has left Napier for Gisborne, where she will be present at the wedding of her son. Mrs and Miss von Dadelszen, who have been spending some weeks in the country, have returned to their home iu Napier.

TARANAKI PROVINCE. Mrs. Fred. Webster, who has been on a visit to her son's home in Hawera, has returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. Prichard and Miijs Godfrey have returned to New Plymouth after their pleasant trip to Christchurch/ Mrs. Harry Didsbury, of Bendigo, Australia, who lias been visiting her mother, Mrs. Skeet. of Nelson,, is now the guest of Mrs. C. Govett, New Plymouth. Mr. T. Bush, of Wellington, is paying New Plymouth a short visit. The Hon. 0. Samuel and Mrs. Samuel and Mrs. Brewster have arrived back hi New Plymouth from Wellington, OLLIHGTON PROVINCE. Miss Costa (Nelson) is the guest of Mrs. Tatton, Palmerston North. Mr. J. Bett. Palmerston North, has returned from Hawera. Lady Ward is back in Wellington, after a flying trip to Napier. Mrs. Findlay is away from Wellington for a week or two. Mrs. B. M. Litchfield (Wellington) is staying with friends in Christchurch. Mrs. J. Abbot is back in Wellington, after a stay in the South. Mrs. Kebbell (Wairarapa) is paying a visit to Wellington. Miss Goring (England) is staying with Mrs. Turnbull (Wellington). Miss Miles is back in Wellington, after a stay in Marlborough. Mrs. Costello and Mrs. Irvine (Otago) are making a stay in Wellington. Mrs. Dalrymple (Bulls) was in Wellington lately for a few days. Miss Fulton has been paying a short visit to Pelorus Sound. Miss Harding (Wellington) is paying visits in the Rangitikei district. Miss Robertson is back in Wellington, after a stay in Palmerston. Mrs. Cleghorn (Wanganui) is shortly coming to Wellington to live. Miss Doris Roskruge (Wellington) is visiting friends in Cnristchurch. Miss K. Fitzgerald, who has been away in Blenheim for two or three weeks, has returned to Wellington. Mrs. W. Keeling and Mrs. Shute, Palmerston North, have returned from Napier. Miss Rutherford (Blenheim) is in Wellington, . staying with Mrs. Miles, Hob-son-street. Miss Bennett, who came to Wellington to visit her sister (Dr. Agnes Bennett), has gone back to Australia. Mrs. W. Shand (Wellington) has gone to Christchurch for a visit to Mrs. Cooper. Mrs. Putnam (Palmerston) has been in Wellington, staying with Mr. and Mrs. Finch. Mrs. R. Stowe (Palmerston) is in Wellington, staying with Mr. and Mrs. Stowe, Tinakori-road. Miss Marshall and Miss Dalrymple (Rangitikei) have left for a trip to Rangoon and the East. They travel by way of Sydney and Singapore.

Miss Bertha Miles, who has been spending the winter in Western Australia, is making a short stay in Sydney before returning to Wellington. Miss Hawdon (Canterbury) spent a few days in Wellington with Mrs. Medley on her way South again, after a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mr. and Miss Percy, who have been in Wellington for the last nine months, have returned to Australia. Mr. Percy took Mr. Tolhurst’s place at the Union Bank during the latter's absence in England. Mrs. Walter Johnston (“Highden,” Rangitikei) has gone to Sydney for a visit. Most of the time will be spent up in the Blue Mountains. Her daughter, Mrs. Baldwin (Palmerston), is accompanying her. Mrs. Leslie Reynolds is leaving Wellington for a year or so, as Mr. Reynolds hos obtained an appointment on the West Coast in connection with the Midland railway. He will mak<* his headquarters near Otira, where Mrs. Reynolds will join him. SOUTH ISLAND. Mrs. Cuthbert Gresson (Timaru) is in Christchurch, staying at the Deanery. Mrs. John Deans (Riccarton) has gone on a visit to Rotorua. , The Misses Humphreys (2), “Fendalton,” have left Christchurch on a visit to South Canterbury. Mrs. Shand (Wellington) is in Christchurch. the guest of her sister. Mrs. Cooper (Papanui). Mrs. W. Wilson (Cranmer Square, Christchurch) and Mr. W. Wilson (her son) kft for a trip to England by the Rimutaka. The Rev Percy Haggitt, ALA., precentor and assistant preacher at Christchurch Cathedral, has just been married in Dunedin to Miss K. Graham, by Bishop Nevill, the Primate of New Zealand.
