AUCKLAND PROVINCE. Mrs 11. Pollock and Miss Madge Pollock, of Sydney, arrived in Auckland on Sunday by Hie Victoria. They are on a visit to Mrs Pollock’s sister, Mrs H. Kinder, Arney-road, Remuera. Mrs IL Hughlings-Jackson, of Christchurch, who has been visiting relations in Auckland for the past two months, left on Tuesday for the South by the s.s. Victoria, accompanied by her sister, Miss Worsp. HAWKES BAY PROVINCE. Mrs. F. W. Thompson, of Christchurch, is on a visit to Napier. Mrs. White, of Wellington, is spending some weeks in Napier. Miss Gillies, of Napier, is on a holiday visit to Auckland. Dr. Makgill is now on a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mrs. Wil— . 3, of Napier, is spending some weeks in Christchurch. Mrs. Smart, of Tutiri, is on a visit to Napier. Archdeacon H. W. Williams has returned to Napier from a visit to Gisborne. The Rev. C. L. Tuke, of Napier, has been appointed by the Bishop of Waiapu a Canon of the Cathedral Chapter. Miss Page, of Hastings, will be leaving next month, to spend some months in London. The Hawke’s Bay Highland Society tendered a welcome in the Foresters’ Hall to their chief, Mr. R. D. D. MeLean, on his return from a visit to the Old Country, writes our Napier correspondent. The news of the sudden death of Mr. E. M. Beresford, of Napier, created a painful surprise. The late Mr. Beresford was widely known in Napier, and had won the esteem of a large circle of friends. WELLINGTON PROVINCE. Mrs. Strang (Palmerston North) is spending a few days in Wellington. Mr. W. D. Lysnar (Gisborne) has been visiting Wellington. Mrs. and Miss Harbroe arc back in Wellington, after a stay in Christchurch. Mrs. Rolleston (Christchurch) is visiting friends in Wellington. Miss Fulton (Wellington) has gone to Dunedin for some weeks. Miss Moore (Wairarapa) is the guest Mrs. Innes, in Wanganui. Miss Dalrymple. Bulls, is the guest of Mrs. Jones, in Wanganui. Mrs. Innes, of Wanganui, has returned from her visit to Wellington. Miss Gresson, of Wanganui, has returned from her holiday in Canterbury. Miss Miles, of Marton, has been the guest of Mrs. Liffiton, in Wanganui. Mr. G. H. Seales (Lower Hutt) is back in Wellington, after a trip to Sydney. Miss Clouston (Blenheim) is spending a few days in Wellington. Miss Mackenzie (Wellington) is visiting friends in Christchurch. Mrs. H. Harding is back in Wellington, after a short stay in Taranaki. Miss Coleridge is staying with friends at NelsonMrs. Wallis is making a short stay in Christchurch. Mrs. Waldegrave is back in Wellington, after a short visit to Mrs. Fitzherbert (Feilding). Mrs and Miss Richmond (Marlborough) are spending a week or two in Wellington. Mr. H. W. Kirkwood, the well-known artist, and Mrs. Kirkwood are visiting Wanganui for a few days.

Lieut.-Col. Chaytor has returned te Blenheim after a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle Smith are making a stay of about a fortnight in Wellington. Mrs. Rochfort, of Stratford, has been staying in Wanganui with her mother, Mrs. A. Lewis. Mrs. Baddeley, Kimbalton, has been the guest of Mrs. Rene!!, in Palmerston, for a week. Mr. W. Keeling and Mr. Bendall, Palmerston, left last week on a trip to /Sydney. Mrs. Warburton has returned to Palmerstc.;- from a visit to friends in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs- Taverner are buck in the Rangitikei district, after a stay of some weekb in the. South Island. Mr. and Mrs. Waterfield have returned to Wellington from Christchurch, where they went for the races. Mr. Alexander Macintosh, who has been spending ten days or so in Wellington, has gone back to Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. Wilde have returned to Marton, after a stay of a few days in Wellington. Dr. and Mrs. Batchelor were in Wellington for a few days, en route to Dunedin, after a holiday trip to Sydney. Dr. Redmond has returned to Picton after a stay in Wellington on public affairs. Miss D. Powell (Wellington) has been visiting Mrs. Barnicoat (Palmerston North). Mr. and Mrs. Waterfield, who went to Christchurch for the Grand National, are home again. The Rev- H. Van Staveren, who has been away for several months revisiting England and Europe, is returning to Wellington by the Rimutaka. Dr. and Mrs. Truby King (Dunedin) are making a stay in Wellington on important public business. Dr. King is an enthusiastic supporter of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Women and Children, and has taken a very activa part in guarding the welfare of neglected children.
