AUCKLAND PROVINCE.

Dr. Maitland came up from the South by th Takapr.na on Sunday. Mr. Murdoch McLean left for the South by the Rarawa on Sunday. Sir Maurice O’Korae, M.L.C., left for Wellington by the Waikare on Saturday. Mrs. George Fowlds and Miss Fowlds were passengers for the South by the Rarawa on Sunday. Mr. George George, director of technical education, left for Wellington on Sunday. ... Mrs. Herbert Gould, of Dargiville, is visiting Auckland', and is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Hunt, of St. George's Bay-road. Parnell. Mrs. P. ,T. Gibson, “Marahemo,” Whakapirau, paid a flying visit .to Auckland last week, and returned to the Kaipara last Monday. Mrs? Tewsley and Miss Doris Tewsley, of Wellington, are visiting Auckland, and are staying at the Grand Hotel, Princesstree t. Mr F. Hill, who has been a purser in the intercolonial service, has retired from the Union Company’s employ. It is Mr Hill’s intention to start in business in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wily, “The Falls,” Mauku. are at present in Auckland. They came down for the purpose of going to hear the Grand Opera Company in the Wagner operas. Recent guests at the Royal Hotel are Messrs. R. Thompson (Whangarei), C. W. Wilkinson (Sydney), R. M. Somerville (Te Kuiti), A. M. Street, C. E. Street, Geo. Ramson (New Plymouth), F. Torrington (Sydney), W. ‘llarsant (Whitianga), W. F. Bruce (Cambridge), A. Bruce (Taotaoroa). Rast week the Presbyterian City Mission held their twenty-first aanheisary meeting, and to mark the. occasion Mr. Duncan Macpherson, the pioneer missioner, was presented with a handsome easy chair. Many eulogistic refer; ences- were, made to the sterling good work accomplished by that, gentleman, and he responded feelingly. Amongst the more . recent guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr. and Mrs. Berkeley H. Stafford (Waihi), Mr. Leopold Sandstein (Christchurch), Mrs. Blaekloek (Sydney), Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Smith ‘(Christchurch), Mr. G. E. Leighton (London), Dr. Potnare, Mrs. A. E. Peache, Miss C. Peache, Mr. J. C. Peache (Mount Somers), Messrs.. E. Warner (New Plymouth), G. R. Mair (Sydney), J. Simpson, Miss Simpson, Mrs. Ritter (London), Messrs. J. Dunlop (Dunedin). R. B. Grange (Sydney), Mr> and Mrs. G. B. Hoggan (Glasgow). Mr. T. Prichard (Queensland), Sir David Masson, Lady Masson, Miss Masson (Lahore. India). A farewell concert was given at Pukekohe, in honour of the Rev. Jas. Ervine, minister of the Presbyterian Church of that district, prior to his departure for Canada owing to continued ill-health. The Rev. A. Doull voiced very feelingly the sentiments of the Church and residents of the district in making the presentation of a wallet containing a parting gift of 60 guineas, and, in asking Mr Ervine to accept it, said: “It is my pleasant duty to present .this wallet and contents, as a token of most affectionate regard, and trust you will have restored health ami prosperity in every way.”

HAWKE'S BAY PROVINCE.

Mrs. Hindmarsh, of Napier, is on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs. and Miss Tripp, of Christchurch, are spending some weeks in Napier. The Misses Monckton, of the Wairarapa, arc on a visit to Napier. Miss Holmes, of Christchurch, is on a visit to Nanier. Miss Thompson, of Gisborne, was in Napier for a short visit last week. Miss Campbell, of Masterton. is on a visit to Napier. The Missea O'Bell, of the Wairarapa, are on a visit to Napier. Mias Williams, of Napier, is spending aama weeks in Wellington.

TARANAKI PROVINCE.

Mr. David Teed, of Auckland, is visiting his relations in New Plymouth. Miss Irene Goldwater has returned to New Plymouth, after spending an enjoyable holiday in Auckland. Mr. Harry Skinner, who has been spending his vacation in New Plymouth, has now returned to Victoria College. The Hon. Mr. and Mrs. O. Samuel, who have been on a visit to China and Japan, have returned to New Plymouth, but are leaving again shortly for Well lington.

PALMERSTON NORTH.

Miss N. Richter, Palmerston, is visiting in the Wairarapa. Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave,' Palmerston, has returned from Hawke’s Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Renell have returned to Palmerston from their holiday trip to Auckland. Mr. W. Park, Palmerston, has returned from a trip to the South Sea Islands. Mr. E. J. Armstrong has returned to Palmerston after spending a pleasant holiday with his son, Mr. C-. E. Armstrong, Gisborne.

WELLINGTON.

Miss Pratt (Feilding), baa been visiting friends in Wellington. Captain and Mrs. Haycock have gone to Picton for a visit. Mrs. Empson (Wanganui) is the guest of Mrs. Wallis (Bishopscourt). Mrs. and Miss Bell are back in Wellington, after a visit to Dunedin. Miss Lambert (Hawke’s Bay) is staying at Miss Malcolm’s. Miss Handyside (Palmerston), is visiting friends in Wellington. Miss Callender (Wellington), has gone to Auckland for a visit. Miss Hesketh (Auckland) has been staying with Mrs. Cooper. Miss McNeil-(Wanganui), is staying with Mrs. H. Bethune. Miss Cowper has gone to Melbourne for a stay of some weeks. Miss Fraser has returned to Dunedin after 'a 'stay in Wellington. Mrs, A’Deane has returned to Hawke’s Bay after a stay in Wellington for the races. The Hon. G. Feldwick and Mrs. Feld•vick are back in Wellington, after a trip South. Mr. and Mrs. Von Haast, who have been making a short stay in Gisborne, have returned to Wellington. Miss Rosalind Whisen (Dunedin) is staying with her aunt, Mrs. Malcolm Ross. The Misses Sydney Johnston (Hastings) are spending a few weeks in Wellington. Miss Russell (Palmerston North), is staying with Mrs. T. C. Williams, Hob-son-street. Mrs. Baldwin (Palmerston North), is staying with Mrs. Johnston, Hobsoiv strcc.l Sir Robert Stout Iras recovered from his illness, and was able to take his scat on the Bench on Monday. Mrs. and Miss Ixiing-Meason are back in Wellington after a stay of a month in Sydney. ...... Mrs. Nathan and the Misses Nathan (2) nave left Wellington for a trip to Sydney where they will spend some weeks. Mi-s G. Knight, who has been in New Zealand for several months, paying visits to her relations, has returned to Sydney. Miss Ledger (Nelson), is staying with Mrs. Ward, in Wellington, on her way borne after a round of visits in the South. Miss Gertrude Reid is back in Wellington after a visit to Mrs. Strang, in Palmerston. Mrs. Strang returned with Miss Reid, and is at present making a stay in Wellington. Mr. E. J. Riddiford (Hutt, Wellington). is taking a holiday cruise in the (south Bea Islands. He intends to ge at far an Honolulu before returning to New Zealand.

Mr. and Mrs.’J. A. Pike (Wellington), have, gone to England for a holiday trip. They travel by way of and will not be back until early next yejir. Mrs. Pike has left her child -in Dunedin in care' of her parents during her own absence.
