AUCKLAND PROVINCE. Miss Price, Mount Eden, was a passenger to the South on Monday by the s.s. Victoria.. Mr Harry Pittar, Remuera, was a passenger to Sydney’ by the Wiminera. Mrs Pilling, Te Arolia, is paying a short visit to Auckland. Miss Bright (Gisborne) is staying with friends ih Napier. Mi. and Mrs. Fred Palairet (Gisborne) are at present visiting Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. A. Watson (Gisborne) have gone South for a trip. Mrs B. Barton, who has been visiting Palmerston, is home in Gisborne again. Bishop Wilson, of Melanesia, arrived from Wellington last week. Mr and Mrs Goodson have gone to Rotorua on a visit. Mr A. Keyes (Mayor of Birkenhead), Mrs Keys, and daughter returned from the South last week. Mr. P. M. Mackay has decided to contest the forthcoming City Council election. Mr and Mrs Heimann Brown are at present doing the sights of the Hot Lake district prior to their return to Europe. Mr. W. Blackloek, who has been visiting- Auckland, left for Pago Pago by the mail steamer • Ventura. The Hon. Hugh Mossman, M.L.C., of Queensland, is in Auckland. He is staying at the Star Hotel, Miss Bridgman lias been appointed matron of Maungakawa Sanatorium, in succession to Miss Duffin. Mr and Mrs Jefferson are leaving Cambridge to take up their residence in Te Aroha. Mrs J. C. Macky, who has been staying with Dr. and Mrs Roberts, of Cambridge, has returned to Auckland. Mr and Mrs Kirk and family, of Lake Takapuna, are leaving for Napier, where they intend to reside. Miss Kirkwood, of Auckland, is at present staying with her aunt, Mrs. James Hally, of “ Valnaai,” Cambridge. Mr. and Mrs. Brown-Clayton, of Auckland, are at present staying at the National Hotel, Cambridge. , Mr., Mrs. and Miss Jeffries, of Post Office. Cambridge, are at present staying at Te Aroha. Miss Muriel Dargaville has gone on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Harold Thompson, at Elthain, Taranaki. Mrs Siggs (Palme n North) is visiting her daughter (Mrs. Barton) in Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. j.lacmillan, who have been visiting Rotorua, have returned to their home in Gisborne. Mrs Jordan, Tauranga, is at present on a visit to her daughter, Mrs Harry Pittar, Remuera, Auckland. Mr and Mrs Hemphill, Maungataroto. Kai para, are staying in Auckland at present Mr. W. B. Morton, of Grafton-road, has been appointed to a responsible position in the Inspection of Machinery Department, Wellington. Mrs Arthur Rees, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Hawkins, at the North Shore, returned to Gisborne last Monday by the Victoria. Mr. H. O’Meara, who has been for many years in Gisborne, has left for Wellington, where he intends to live for some time. Mrs. Buckeridge (Gisborne) has left for Christchurch, where she will remain for some weeks, as .she has been engaged to sing at the Exhibition concerts.

Mr and Mrs Arthur Palairet (nee McVay) arrived in •Auckland via Wanganui on Sunday, and are staying at “Glenalvon” for the present. Mrs. Brett, who has been on a visit to Christchurch for some months, returned to Takapuna, Auckland, by the Wimmera on Sunday. • - ‘ The Hon. F. Trask, M.L.C., and Mrs. Trask, who have been spending a short holiday in Auckland, returned to the South by the Takapuna last week. His Honor Mi’ Justice Cooper and his associate, Mr A. C. Cooper, arrived from New Plymouth on Sunday by the Takapuna. * Mr. Bert. Brodie, of the Postal Department, who was transferred from Auckland to Invercargill some time ago, is up North again on a holiday visit to Rotorua and Auckland. Mr., Mrs. and Miss Jessie Frater, Cityroad, Auckland, left last week for the Christchurch Exhibition, via the Wanganui River. Miss E. Frater, Remuera, accompanied them. Mr and Mrs Cotter and the Misses Cotter have returned to Auckland after a very enjoyable visit to Dunedin and Christchurch. Miss Millie Cotter remained in Wellington and intends to stay, a few weeks longer. Mr. J. B. Percy, formerly inspector of the Union Bank of Australasia, Ltd., in. Wellington, is filling the position of Mr. G. E. Tolhurst, the Auckland inspector, who is absent in England. Just prior to the -departure for Wellington last week of Mr Gordon Montefiore, the staff of the Ocean Accident Insurance Company presented him with a handsome travelling bag. Mr. Bnsh (accountant), in making the presentation, tendered to the recipient the good wishes of his comrades. At last week’s meeting of the Auckland University College Council, Mr, J. P. Grossmann, lecturer on Economics, History, and Mental Science, was appointed to a seat on the Professorial. Board of the College. Cable advice has been received by Messrs. Bing. Harris and Co., of the death, suddenly, at Sydney, from pneumonia, of their general manager, Mr. Alexander Knight, who left Auckland on the 11th inst., en route for England, on the firm’s business. James Mclntyre, of the Clyde Engineering Works, of Onehunga, has been appointed fourth engineer of the s.e Monte Video. Mr Russell Ross, who is leaving the engineering firm of \> A. Ryan and Co., and will shortly leave for Scotland, was last week presented by his fellow employees with a valuable set of tools as a mark of friendship and esteem. The presentation was made by Air F. G. Farrell on the occasion of a social reunion at the residence of Captain W. Ross, and, being in the nature of a surprise, was oil the more appreciated by the recipient, who made a suitable acknowledgement. <- A welcome was tendered to Monsignor O’Reilly at Thames last; week, by the children of his parish on the occasion of his return from a holiday’ in the South and also to commemorate the forty-first anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
