Despite the weather, a large crowd assembled in front of the Post Office at 10 o’clock to be present at the official starting of- the dock and chimes recently erected in the Post Office tower. Mr. S. Abrahams, the Acting-Mayor, in his speech, referred to the great interest taken by Mrs. W. T. Wood and Miss tiara M ood in obtaining the money necessary for the purchase of the clock, mid in response to the request of the Minister for Public Works. Tlir marriage of Alisa Agnes Mowleam second daughter of Capt. Mowlem, ea Pahnerston, to Mr. Roas, of Wellington, took place on Wednesday last. The wedding was very quiet, no one but relatives being present. The marriage of Miss Letty Siggs, second daughter of Mr. Biggs. Broadr street, to Mr. N. Barton, of Gisborne, takes place at All Saints’ Church OB Monday, the 19th inst.
