PRIZEWINNERS AT THE NEW PLYMOUTH FIRE BRIGADE’S JUVENILE BALL.

This event took place last week in New Plymouth, and, according to our special correspondent in that city, was quite a splendid success. It is the great yearly event of the children’s lives, so they look forward and prepare for it months beforehand. The fancy dancing was under the direction of Miss Bedford,

while Miss Humphries supervised the grand march. Music was supplied by Miss R. Knott, who also rendered valuable service by playing at all the children’s practices. The following prizes were awarded: Best girls’ fancy dress. Miss —. Tarry, Inglewood,!Princess Ida), most original girl’s dress (Mrs. Dan (O'Brien’s prize), Miss Marrowdean Moon

(Fire-bell); best boy’s fancy dress. Master T. Richards (Napoleon); most original boy’s dress. Master Jack Cliff (Devilled Ham); and for the following poster dresses. Miss Lambert (Sykes’ "Ingo”) : Miss Hilda Jury (’’ Paul’s Pale Ale”). Mesdanies Ab. Goldwater. Bewley, and Miss Cameron acted as judges. At 9.30 p.m. dancing was taken up by the adults. Mr. Bain’s orchestra supplying the

music. The floral decorations of tin supper table were arranged by Mrs O’Loughlin, the centre piece being a large floral fire-bell, ami at each end were two small pieces of work, while inter mingled were pot ferns ami vases of cut flowers. For the great success the twill was, much praise is due to the ladies’ committee, of which Mrs. Dockrill (Mayoress) was the head.
