PALMERSTON NORTH.

Dear Bee. July 7. I have little to write about this week, excepting the weather. Outdoor sport has been out of. the question. We have had nothing but floods of rain for nearly a-fortnight, and now a fierce wind is blowing. On Monday and Tuesday of this week a fancy dress masquerade was held AT THE OLYMPIA RINK. The hall was gaily decorated with flags, etc., for the occasion, and the many skaters in fancy costume made a very pretty spectacle. Among others who have been at the rink lately are: Airs. Gould, Airs. Gibbons, Alls. Afc-

Knight, Mrs. Clarkson, Mrs. F. Riddiford. Misses Armstrong, Cotter (Greytown), F. Waldegrave, Fitzherbert, Reed (2), Collins (2), Porter, D. Waldegrave, N’annestad, Jensen. At a meeting held lately it was proposed to hold a COUNTY BALL in the Municipal Room at the Opera House on Friday, August 3. The committee are: Mesdames R. S. Abraham. C. Waldegrave, E. Warburton, H: Gibbons. H. C. Mellsop, F. Cooke, J. H. Rankins, C. J. Monro, R. Stowe, 11. S. Fitzherbert, C. A. Loughnan, O. H I’orritt, Messrs. E. N. Barraud, H. GiffordMoore, F. Cooke, P. Sim. H. Cooper, M . Strang, 11. Gibbons, Dr. Stowe, Dr. Putnam, and V. E. Harman (secretary). Thursday was a most miserable night for the second of the CINDERELLA DANCES. Those dances seem fated as to weather. It is always so stormy that many refrain from going. Those present included: Mrs. H. S. Fitzherbert. in black silk, chiffon and sequin insertion on bodice, grey velvet eoat; Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave, black brocade, sequin trimming on corsage, and cluster of pink flowers, cream coat; Mrs. Warburton, black silk, berthe of black and silver sequins; Mrs. W. Keeling, cream lace robe over green silk, lace- and pink Howers on bodice; Mrs. Gibbons, blaek net over blaek silk, frills edged with black satin ribbon; Mrs. Renal', cream silk and chiffon; Miss F. Waldegrave. pale blue accordion-pleated silk, skirt made with double flounce, .Maltese lace berthe; Miss M. Waldegrave. a dainty cream silk frock; Miss Armstrong, black' satin with aceordion-pleatcd blaek silk frills; Miss Fitzherbert, cream silk and chiffon; Miss Porter, white muslin, frills edged with narrow niched ribbon; Miss Hankins, blaek silk and chiffon; Miss Keeling, in cream voile; Miss Collins, the Misses Reed (2), Warburton, ■{obinson (2), Dr. and Mrs. Putnam, Messrs Collins, Waldegrave" Bell. Smith, Spencer, Vaughan, Reed, Wilson, Barraud, McLean, Dr. Pope, and others.

A ladies’ bogey competition is being played on the HOKOWHITU LINKS to-day for trophies presented by Mr. The stroke competition to be played last Tuesday was postponed on account of bad weather tilt next Tuesday. The men’s monthly stroke competition played on Wednesday was won by A. Barraud, who, playing from scratch, completed the round in 87. The dates of the annual Manawatu Golf Tournament have been altered from the middle of August to August 29th, 30th, and 31st.
