AN EVENING PARTY was given last Tuesday by the Misses Burns in honour of their guest, Miss Matson, of \\ ellington. .Advertisement games, music, and dancing were much en joyed by the guests. Mrs. Burns wore a becoming gown of primrose brocade, with corsage trimming, and sleeves of cream lace; the Misses Burns, pale blue frocks, with cream lace; Miss Watson, pale green Oriental satin, and cream laee; Miss Julius, black point d'esprit net over black satin; .Miss M. Fox, white silk and lace, red Howers; Miss Stead, pale blue taffeta and laee; Miss Bertha Julius, white silk and laee: Miss Thomas, white satin; Miss Kettle, heliotrope silk and chiffon: Miss Campbell, pink and white silk, striped with touches of mauve; Mrs. F. Burns (Geraldine). black lace over white satin; Miss Denniston, white crepe de chine, with Maltese laee, silver belt: Miss .Murray-Aynsley, white laee over white satin; Miss Babington, turquoise blue silk; Miss Maekellar (Wellington), white muslin and lace; Miss R. Andetson, pale green silk; Miss Mears, floral net over silk; Miss Molineaux. heliotrope muslin and lace; Miss Symes, white mousseline de soie, and dark red roses; Miss N. Reeves, cherry coloured silk and cream lace. Amongst the gentlemen were: .Messrs. Anderson, lihind (Wellington), E. Harper. Hudson. Moorhouse, Pollock, Aitken, Ollivier, Monteith, Denniston. Kitson, Babington, Laurence, and Sliarland. A BRIDGE PARTY. was given at the Cafe Royal by Miss Symes, the players being: Mrs. Symes, Mrs. Guy Ronalds. Mrs. Beswiek, Mrs. Kettle. Mrs. Wardrop. Misses Nedwell, Anderson, Blomfield, Kettle, Campbell, Deans. .Moore (2). A recherche supper was served in an adjoining room. FOR AN AT HOME given by Mrs. Reece (Bealey-avenue) on Thursday afternoon, each invitation was accompanied by a request that a photograph of the guest when an infant should be brought. These were distributed, and the charaeler of the original had to be written out. The best one was done by Mrs. Maekellar. who received a mother of pearl paper-knife. A prize w:ts also given for the prettiest Ir.iby photograph. Miss Bertha Julius came first and Miss Ethel Martin second. Mrs. Reece was handsomely gowned in black taffeta and laee; and Miss Reeee wore white crepe de chine, with scarlet belt. Amongst others present were: Mrs. A. Maekellar. A FAREWELL TEA was given on the same afternoon by Miss Muriel Anderson to her cousins, the Misses .Anderson, of Opawa. who are leaving Christchurch this week for the North Island, where they intend to reside for a year or two. Wilson, Mrs Westmncott, Mrs Kettle, Mrs Burns. Mrs Bowman Fox played the piano accompaniments. Mrs Burns wore a pretty gown of grey eolienne, with face over yellow silk; Mrs F. Burns, grey tweed, with cream laee vest; Miss Burns was in white; Miss Watson (Wellington), grey canvas; Mrs Wilson, black costume, black and white toque; Mrs Stead, dark grey tailor-made costume, dark green toque; Miss Stead, navy blue coal and skirt, sable furs and toque; Mrs Pyne, bhick and white costume and toque: Mrs Westmaeott, pale grey tweed, white and green hat; .Mrs W. At an EVENING PARTY given on Thursday by Mrs Todhunter (Merivale), a novel and amusing game was played. Each guest was provided with paper and a pencil, and requested to write a description of some one in the room. The descriptions were then read aloud, and every one had to guess for whom they were intended. A prize given was won by Miss Anderson. Mrs Todhunter wore a pretty gown of grey satin, veiled with black net; and Miss Todhunter. white silk and lace. Amongst the guests were the Misses Cook, Preston. Anderson, Denniston, Poulton, Milling. Mears. Dobson. Jameson, Thomas. Campbell, Fulton. Kitson, Rutherford, and Dr. Alice Moorhouse, Messrs Rhind. Jameson, Poulton. Thomas, Knight, Fryer, Anderson, and Moorhouse. Several LTNCII EON PARTIES were given during the week. At one given by Mrs Beals, the guests included Mrs Borthwick. Mrs G. Stead. Mrs J. C. Palmer, and Miss Neave. Miss Molineaux's party was given in honour of Miss Watson, of Wellington; and Miss Mears gave one as a farewell to the Misses Anderson, of Opawa. During the present season of Williamson’s Comic Opera, THEATRE PARTIES are greatly in vogue. On Saturday night one party of young people numbered between thirty and forty.
