Dear Bee. May IS. Several girls who are not yet out, got up A LITTLE DANCE in the Foresters Hall on Friday last. Invitations were extended to a few older girls, who enjoyed themselves immensely. and complimented the youthful entertainers on their effort. Mrs Fitzherbelt, Mrs Monro, Mrs O’Brien,and All’s J. Hewitt were the chaperons. Of the grown-up girls the Aliases Hewitt, 11, Wilson, Simeox (Otaki). Warburton. P. Keeling. F. Waldegrave. Af. Waldegrave, Fookes (New Plymouth), and Powell (2) (Wellington), were present. The Misses Fitzherbert (3), O’Brien. Porter, Dorothy Waldegrave. Trixie Waldegrave, Sylvia Abraham. Linda and Alary Monro, Ruby Alacintyre, Winnie Watson, Ethel Collins, Doris Robinson, Marjory and Alison Barnieoat were among the younger girls. The men present included Alessrs Smith, Reed, AlcLean, Barraud, Waldegrave, Watson. Fulton, Fitzherbert (2), Hewitt. Collins (2), and Afasters Humphrey Barnieoat. Arnold Richter. Phil Alacintyre, Gordon Gibbons. Ernest Waldegrave and several others. At a meeting held on last Thursday it was decided to continue THE CINDRELLA DANCES, which were so successful last year during the winter months. The committee elected to manage affairs were Misses Robinson (2). Bell. Fitzherbert, A. Reed and P. Keeling, and Messrs Smith, Spencer, Vaughan. McLean, Barraud and Collins. The first dance, will be held on Thursday, the 31st inst. A LADIES’ HANDICAP BOGEY MATCH was played on the Hokowhitu links on Tuesday afternoon. The entries were Meadames Mellsop. Jamieson, Moore. Alonro. Innes, Freeth, Porritt, and Alisses E. Abraham, AlcLennan and Slack, for the senior. Mesdames Warburton, Holmes, Millton. Seifert. Leary, Adams and Misses M. Waldegrave. Fitzherbert. Bell, Warburton, E. McLennan, M. Abraham and Hewitt for the junior. Miss Slack was the winner of the seniors, and Airs Mellsop second. For the juniors Mrs Milltoll was first and Miss Warburton and Miss E. McLennan tied for second place. A team of players is coming from Wanganui to-day to play * match with the local club. Airs H. Waldegrave, Park road, gave A SPLENDID DANCE at her residence last night. The house is particularly well adapted for a dance, having several large rooms and many passages and recesses useful for retiring to between the dances. No trouble had been spared in the arrangements. The draw-ing-room and dining room were used for dancing, and the study as a card-room. Flowers were everywhere, and the hall and Staircase decorated with pampas

grass and bamboo, pretty effects being obtained with Chinese lanterns. The breakfast-room was used as a supperroom, the tables being prettily ornamented with yellow chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern, small lamps with coloured shades making effective spots of colour. McMinn supplied good musie; the Misses Robinson and Armstrong and Alessrs B. Waldegrave and H. Collins played extras. Airs H. Reed, Wilson, Barraud, Haynes, Bell, McLean and others. Mrs Gibbons, Bank of New Zealand, gave a small party on Wednesday for her sons before their return to school. COMING EVENTS. To-night Mrs H. Waklegrave has a large children’s party. On Monday evening Mrs Gifford Moore gives a children’s party. On Tuesday Mrs C. J. Monro, of Fitzherbert, is giving a party for older children, and on Wednesday, evening Mrs. F. Robinson, Amesburystreet, gives one. So much gaiety for the children means a very- trying time for many mothers. •Mrs F. Robinson has issued a large number of invitations for an "At Home” on Tuesday evening, the 22nd inst.
