It would be impossible to issue this historical number of the Graphic” without making; generous acknowledgment of the invaluable assistance rendered by those who loaned the photographs, periodicals, and post-cards which enabled us to compile such a complete record of the unfortunate city. We were unable to use all the material which reached us, but nevertheles we are extremely grateful to all who assisted us, and take this opportunity of thanking them. A special word of thanks is due to Mr. Sproule, of Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane, agents for the Oceanic mail steamers, who, in spite of the fact that the terrible news must have caused him much anxiety, was courtesy itself, and gave us great assistance.
