AUCKLAND PROVINCE. Captain R. H. Gibbons, of the Northern S.S. Co., returned to /Auckland last week from the South. , Re.v. W. and Mrs Jellie were among the passengers for Wellington by the Takapuna on Monday. Mr John Currie, of Auckland, was a passenger for New Plymouth by' the Takapuna on Monday afternoon. Mr P. Sargood, partner in the firm of Sargood, Son ami Ewen, arrived in Auckland by the Takapuna on Sunday. Mr. A. W. Rutherford, member for Hurunui, is at present on a visit to Auckland. Miss Lennox left Auckland last week by the Navua en route for aueouver, where she will stay for several months. Mr C. A. De Lautour, of Gisborne, leaves by the Corinthie on a visit to England for the benefit of his health. Mrs E. Bloomfield, who has been staying in Auckland for some months, has returned to Gisborne. Mr. Ronald W. St. Clair, the new local VicerConsul for Norway at Auckland, has eomenced his official duties. The Rev. ami Mrs Woolloxali were tendered a welcome social at Waihi last week by members of the Primitive Methodist Church. Mr. C. F. C. Miller is about to leave the office of Messrs. Reed and Bailey, of Auckland, and takes up his duties with Mr, Vernon Reed, of Kawakawa. Miss Rose Campbell-Thompson, of Gisborne, who has been staying with friends in Dannevirke and Wellington, has returned home. Mrs. Matheson, of Cambridge, left on Monday to pay a long visit to her relations in Melbourne. Mr. Matheson is going with her as far as Sydney. Victoria for Napier to visit their friends in the Wuirarapa and the South Island. The Roman Catholic Bishop, Dr. Leni. han, wept to Rotorua last week to open the Church of St. Michael’s, which has recently - been enlarged and renovated. The Bishop, who is visiting the district* . where the Redemptorist fathers are conducting missions, will probably be absent from the city for about a fortnight. Miss Jennie Pollock, an Auckland lady, who is now one of the leading members of the Bland Holt Dramatic Company, arrived in Auckland on Sunday by the Victoria on a visit, and is staying with Mr. Bartley, manager of the Newton branch of the Auckland. Spencer have return-, ed to New Plymouth from their pleasant trip to Wellington. Mrs and Miss MeLean, of Hawera, with their visitors, Misses Laishley and Brandon, of Wellington, are staying for a few weeks in New Plymouth. Mr P. S. Whiteombe, and Inspector Ballantyne, New Plymouth, have returned from a trip to Mokau and Awakino. Mr Griffiths, New Plymouth, who accompanied the tennis party to Auckland, will stay up North for about six weeks, writes our New Plymouth correspondent. ■ Mr Hubert Hine, and Mr H. J. Brewer, were admitted as solicitors of the Supreme Court, by his Honor, Mr Justice Edwards, last week, at New Plymouth. Mr E. A. Kerby has severed his connection with the New Plymouth branch of Messrs Areh. Clark and Sons, in order to'take up a more lucrative position with Messrs Ross and Glendinning. Wellington. Monro (Palmerston North) have returned from a trip to Sydney. Dr. and Mrs Stowe, Palmerston North, were in Wellington recently for a few days. Bridge, who has been chairman of the Wanganui Education Board for a number of years, has resigned owing to ill-health, and Mr. Fred Pirani has been elected to fill the vacancy. Mrs E. J. Riddiford. who has been away in England visiting her married daughter. Airs Lindsay, is hack in Wellington again. Her two little girls and Miss Sladcn went over to Sydney to meet her. Miss V. McDonnell has returned from Blenheim, and is staying in Wellington with Mrs Larnach. Miss H. McDonnell is also in Wellington at present. She is the guest of Mis’s Harcourt.

Air and Mrs Wilson were in Wellington for a few days on their way back to Bulls after a stay in Christchurch for the Polo Tournament, in which their sons were taking part. It was the Rangitikei team which won the championship.

Mr de B. Brandon, who has been in England for some years, is returning to Wellington before long. After taking his degree at Oxford he read for the Jaw, and -has just been called to the Bar. Miss Flora. Brandon is going across to Sydney to meet him. Mr J. Mills, managing director of the Union Company, is to be entertained at a luncheon at the Wellington Town Hall on April 12 by the Institute of Marine Engineers. The chair will be taken by the Premier, who is a life honorary associate of the institute.

Airs. Kettle and Miss C. Kettle (Christchurch) have returned from a trip to the Southern Lakes. Dr. and Afiss N. Ainger have left Christchurch for England. They go by way of Japan. Afiss Pratt (England), who is the guest of Bishop and Mrs. Julius (Christ - church), leaves for Home by the Ruapehu. Miss Dalrymple (Rangitikei) has been staying with Mrs. Izard.
