AUCKLAND PROVINCE. Dr. Mabel Baillie, of Suva, came to Auckland by the Navua. last week. Mr A. E. Manning, of Hamilton, has gone to Australia on a holiday. Mr E. Morton, of the well-known English firm of C. and E. Morton, is at present visiting Auckland. Miss Jennie Ireland (Parnell) returned to Auckland last week from a visit to the South. Inspector Cullen returned to Auckland from Whangarci last week by the Ngapuhi. Miss-Mollit (Invercargill) is on a visit to Mrs Ireland, “Huhne Court.” Parnell, Auckland. Miss Beale, of Papakura Valley, is at present staying with Mrs. Wells, ‘ Oakleigh,” Cambridge. Mr. Jasper W. Browne, of Suva, was a passenger from Fizi by the Navua last week. Mrs. James Hally and family have returned home to Cambridge from their visit to Waiwera. Mrs. ( Iqis. Inness, who has been staying with her people in Gisborne, has returned to her home in Wanganui. Mr. Owen Monckton, who has been for a trip to the Wairarapa, has now returned to Gisborne. Mrs. A. West is staying with her mother, Mrs. W. L. Hees (Gisborne), and returns to England in about a month. The many friends of Mr H. N. Warner, of Graham-street, Auckland, will regret to learn that he is seriously indisposed. Mrs. James Taylor and family, of •‘Bardowie’” Cambridge, returned home last week from their visit to Waiwera. Mr W. J. Napier returned to Auckland on Sunday from the South by the 1 akapuna. Miss Le Bailey (Auckland) is at present staying with Dr. and Mrs. Roberts, of Cambridge. Mr E. C. Clarke, of the Thames telegraph office, has Wen appointed senior clerk at Whangarei. Professor Brown and his daughters are going to make the Wanganui Rivet trip, and left Auckland this week for that purpose. The Rev. Erie Rice, son of Mr Vineent Rice, who has been visiting his family in Auckland during the holidays, returned to Christchurch last week. Mr., Mrs. and the Misses Rutledge, who have been living in Gisborne for the last two years, have returned to their home in Melbourne. Mr A. M. T. Duncan, Warden at Suva, arrived in Auckland last week from Fiji by the Navua. lie spends a short holiday here.

Miss M. Fratcr returned to Auckland last week from her visit to Rotorua and Cambridge. She was the guest of Mrs. Wells, of Oakleigh, at the latter place. Mrs Braithwaite, mother of Captain Braithwaite, A.D.C. to the Governor, has booked a passage down the Wanganui River hy the Hatriek Company's boat, and left Auckland this week.

A presentation of a silver cruet-stand was made to Mr L. Townley by the employees of Messrs. A. Tooman and Co., Auckland, on the occasion of his marriage.

Mrs. Lindsay, mother of Dr. Lindsay, Auckland, who has been staying at “Wainone,” Cambridge, with her grandchildren, returned to Auckland last week to await the arrival of Dr. and Mrs. Lindsay from England.

Mrs and the Misses Mountfort, of Wanganui, who have been visiting Auckland, went to Rotorua last week, and thence go down the Wanganui River via Taumarunui.

A movement is being made in Waihi to recognise Mr Foster’s labours to secure the Bay of Plenty seat, and in recognition of his hard-fought battle a complimentary social is being tendered him.

Mr A, Rosser, secretary of the Trades and Labour Council, has been gazetted as a J.P. The Council at its meeting last week offered Mr. Rosser its congratulations, and expressed its pleasure that the distinction should have been conferred on one of its number. Mr J. C. Stevens, of Dunedin, is at present visiting Auckland. He attended the big bowling tournament in Wellington, and accompanied the Auckland bowlers to this city, arriving here on Monday. He will spend some time here before returning South. The Rev. J. B. Smellie has been called to the charge of Papakura, rendered vacant by the death of the patriarch, Rev. T. Norrie, who held the position for 50 years. Mr Smellie has been stationed at Reefton for a couple of years past. At the meeting of the Blind Institute contributors last week Mr. J. Reid said that after the resignation of the manager last year, Mr IL Leslie Hunt, secretary, had temporarily discharged the duties of the position very satisfactorily. The High Commissioner had been asked to select a suitable man who was also a qualified teacher. It was hoped that the appointment would be made shortly. Mr. and Miss Stead left Napier last week for their home in Christchurch. The Misres Humphries are absent from Napier for a few weeks at I’ohui. Miss K. Iloadley (Napier) is spending a few mouths in Dunedin. Miss Pleasants, who 's spending a holiday in Napier, is the gu‘st of Mrs. Brabant, Harvey-road. Mrs. A. Kennedy (Napier) is in the Wairarapa, where she intends spending a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Cross ( Hastings) left Napier in their motor ear last w<v?k for Taupo. Miss Harman (Christchurch) is at present in Napier as the guest of Mrs. R. Dunean. Miss Nairn (Pourere) is in Napier for a few days. Mrs. and Dr. Donald hare returned to Napier after having spent some v.eeks in Taupo. Mr Sydney Hoben. the well-known musician, has decided to settle in Napier. In addition to conducting a large teaching connection he was up till the time of his leaving Australia musical critic on the staff of the “Sydney Mail.” By the departure for Europe of Chevalier August Wiegand the position of organist at St. Patrick’s Cathedral became vacant, and it was offered to and accepted by Mr Hoben.

TARANAKI PROVINCE.

Mrs. N. Kensington is spending a few days in New Plymouth. Dr. and Mrs. Westenra (Hawera) have gone on a trip to Christchurch. Mr. P. B. Fitzherbert has returned to Waitara after a trip to Palmerston North. Mr Frank IL Williams, formerly of Mort’s Dock, Sydney, has been appointed to the charge of tbe Inglewood Electric Light ami Power Co.'s dynamo. There were 45 applications for tbe position.

WELLINGTON PROVINCE.
