Dear Bee, • October 27. MR. W ATKIN MILLS and his talented company gave another very .successful concert in the Opera Douse last Friday evening. Among the large audience present were:—Mr and Mrs I-'. If. Cooke, Mr and Airs Watson, Misses Fraser and Dalrymple, Air and Mrs McKnight, Mr and Mrs Holmes, Aliases Akers, Dr. ami ■ Mrs. O’Brien, Miss O’Brien. Air. and Mrs Freetli. Air and Airs Warburton. Airs and Aliss Waldegrave, Mr and Airs Jewell, Air and Aliss Bond. ■ - Saturday was a very windy, threatening day for the HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS, but notwithstanding a large crowd of relatives and friends were present. The Board of Governors ami the headmasters of the town schools, Messrs Watson. Low. and Fairbrother, together with the stall of the High School, had charge of the proceedings. Air F. Pirani and Mr W. 11. Collingwood started the events, and Messrs Warden. Gibbons, and O. Gardner afforded valuable assistance. Among others present were Mr ami ill's Vernon, Mr and Mrs Foote, Air Cooper, Airs Mellish, Airs Hanna. The day was thoroughly wet, but nevertheless the attendance was excellent. fhe following aie the various stalls and those in charge: — Plainwork, Alesilamcs AlcDowell. Morgan. Hastie, Miss Banks; refreshments, Alesdames Burgess, Rawlins. Spratt, -Misses Aldrris. Rawlins. Buiges<; faneywork, Alesdames Leigh. Pringle. Campbell, Roe, ami Olsen; sweets, Misses .May ami Hilda loins, Martin. Hocking, and Stout; Howers, Misses Buchan. Garrett, Baker. Paine, and Mr .1. Nairn- The peri eave, so delightful to the small people, was in charge of Airs Nelson and the Misses Norton ami Andrews. During the evenings there were various competitions, that caused great amusement. Ihe wool-winding was won by Miss Payne and Mr AleDowell, hat-trimming by Air R. AfeDowell, and the boys’ coat race by Horace Pringle. Some pretty dailies and action songs were given by a number of quaintly dressed little girl-, the principal items being a fairy- dialogue and country dame, and a Japanese umbrella song. Misses E. Brown and C. Bett danced a Highland fling, and were loudly applauded. The sale extended over three days, and will terminate to-night. TO TAKE PLACE. Mrs R. S. Abraham’s dance at her residence, Fitzherbert, takes place tonight. On next Tuesday Aliss Beerc's annual partv in .connection witli her dancing class takes place at Craven College. The Alanawatu and West Coast animal show' is to be held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week. The weather at present is so awful, and so much water is lying on the ground, that everyone connected with or interested in the show, is very anxious as to what the weather has in store for us next week. During the show-‘week a large. Catholic bazaar is to lie held ill the Zealandia Hall. Great preparations have been going on for months, and large numbers of girls have been practising fancy dances for a long time past-
