JI tear Bee, October •’(>. THE LAST OF MISS BRETT’S ASSEMBLIES was held on Wednesday night in the Foresters’ Hall, and I think it was 1 quite one of-. the most successful. Unfortunately the weather was very boisterous. Nevertheless there was quite a large number present, and a inost wonderful thing for Haw era—men were in the maj.ority. A number of visitors were present from Batea, Manilla and Stratford, and very brave we all thought them, considering what a stormy night it was. The floor was in perfect order,

and the music snplied by Mis* Flynn was delightful. Amongst those present- I noticed Mrs Brett, who wa< wearing black silk grenadine over white g’ace; Mrs I). E. Fantham, peach-coloured silk prettily trimmed with ecru insertion; Mrs Jacob, handsome gown of whit* satin, the corsage relieved with a fichu of chiffon and diamond ornaments; Miss Jackson (Stratford), frock of accordionpleated silk, red Howers cn corsage; Miss Gibson (Patea), dainty frock of white muslin, the skirt profusely frilled, the corsage trimmed with chiffon and re I poppies: .Miss Nolan, handsome toilette of blue brocade, the corsage relieved with blue a ccord ion-pleated chiffon; Miss White, yellow silk, red poppies on corsage-, and in hair; Miss Brett, blue silk, frilled and inserted with lace; Miss Baird, white muslin, daintily trimmed and relieved with pale blue; Mi-s P. Caplen, white muslin, inserted with lace; Miss Carey, handsome diess of black satin, the corsage relieved with handsome white lace; Miss Coutts, frock of shirred white muslin; her sister was also w earing a similar frock ; Miss V. Hunter, white muslin, the corsage trimmed with pink; Miss Stringer, white muslin, yellow silk sash. Amongst the men I noticed Messrs Deller (Stratford), Kenny, Baird. Taylor (Manaia), Norton (Patea), Parkinson, Riddle (Waihi), Glenn, Swinburne. Mcßae (Patea), Aitken, Gibson, Young (Otakeho), Cuningham, Blennerhassett (2) (Eltham), R. Bayley, S. Baird (Manaia), Mclntosh, Cowerii, Tonks, Kirkby, Buchanan, Paul (New Plymouth). AIR WATKIN MILLS gave another of his delightful concerts last Tuesday night. Amongst the large audience present were Rev.’J. and” Mrs Jacob, -Rev.' and Mrs Matson (Waitotara). Miss Worrall, Miss Templer, Mrs Baird, Miss Gibson, Mr and Mrs Willis, Mr and Mrs Williams, Miss Latter (Eltham). Mr and Mrs Meek. Misses Coutts (2),-Air F. Parkinson, Mr and Mrs Page, Air Turton, Air and Aliss Hurst, Airs Nicholas, Misses .Flynn, Airs W. Quin, etc.
