WELLINGTON PROVINCE.

Airs Platts Mills, Wellington, has been spending a holiday in Sydney. Aliss Diddams (Wairarapa) is staying with Airs Fulton, Wellington. Aliss Fitzberliert (Wellington) is staying with friends in Dunedin. Airs Kebbell (Pahiatua) is on a short visit to Wellington. Miss Trueman (Sydney) is the gust of Mrs Beauchamp, Wellington. Airs Kirkcaldy (Dunedin) was in Wellington for a few days last week. Madame Chambers (Auckland) is at present in Wellington. Mrs Jeffcoat (Wellington) is slaving with friends in Hawke’s Bay. Air Egbert Fitzherbert, of Wanganui, has gone to Wellington for a short visit. Airs Saunders, of Wanganui, has returned from her visit to Danuevirke. Airs AleCarthy’ and Alias Fitzsimmons, who have lieen spending the winter in Nelson, have returned to Wellington. Airs and Alias Rutherford, who have been in Wellington for the session, have gone back to their home in Cante.bury. Hamer, who is at present private secretary ty the Premier, will succeed Air 11. Elliott as I mder-Seeretary for Mines on the latter's retirement at the end of the year. He has held the rank of chief clerk-of the Alines Department for several years past. Air Hamer was born in Auckland in 1855. his father being a Congregational ministry and in 18(2 he joined the service of Ihe Pro vincial Government, remaining in the Superintendent’s Department till the abolition of the Provincial Council, when lie joined the Bank of New Zealand, and two ye’ars later the Alines Department. In 1891 he was appointed secretary to the Premier, then Minister for Alines, and has been associate,! with Mr Seddou ever since, earning a wide popularity with al) who had dealings w th h’m.
