On Wednesday evening the lambi idge Musical Society gave a performance iu the Alexandra Hall of the operatie cantata, -SHERWOOD’S QI'EEN.” Notwithstanding the miserable state of the weather, there was a targe ami appreciative audience. Mr Edwards wielded the baton in his usual able manner. Mr Faweett Rowe was most successful as stage manager, ami he also took the part of “Robin Hood.” his singing and acting being excellent. Mrs Shepherd (soprano) tts Queen, sang her duets with Robin Hood in a pleasing manner. Miss Law was heard to advantage in the part of "A Widow.” Miss E. Bell as “Alice" was much applauded for Iter singing in the love scene. Mr G. W. Venables made a very good “Friar Tuck,” and was very successful in his solo, “I :t.u a Friar of Orders Grey.” Tire other ebatacters were well sustained by the following:—“Little John,” .Mr K. Court; "Will Scarlet,” Mr J. V. Richards; “Allan-a-dale,” Mr H. C. Ross; "John Arthwell,” Mr F. O’Toole; the widow s sons, Messrs Forbes, Feisst, and BeckThe choruses were bright and sparkling. . An excellent orchestra added greatly to the success of the entertainment. I believe it is the intention of the musical society to repeat the performance at an early date as a complimentary benefit to their conductor, Mr Edwards. The' final in the Cambridge men’s golf championship was played ON THE LINKS on Wednesday. The two in the tinals were Messrs J. L. S. Richardson and Mr Matheson, and the former proved victorious. The golf season came to a very successful termination on Saturday last with a handicap approaching and putting competition for ladies, and a handicap driving competition for gentlemen. The former, which was for a trophy, presented by the treasurer, Mr W, R. C, Walker, excited very keen interest. The winner was Miss F. Skeet. The other ladies competing were Mrs Matheson, Mrs Butler, Misses Dunne, Young (2), Brooks (2). Wright, R. Skeet, Clark, H. Wells, Willis (2). The driving competition which followed, was won by Mr Bertie Fair (Dublin)- The longest ball was driven by Mr J. L. S. Richardson, the distance being 235. Other competitors were Messrs Connor; Shand, Anderson, Farnall. Walker, J. Fair, Payze, Pirani and Dr. Roberts. A very appetising afternoon tea was provided by the lady members of the club. ELSIE.
