Miss Gossett 1 Christchurch ) is leaving for England at the end of the month on * visit Io her grandmother, who lives in Devonshire. Mr. Neave (Okeover), who recently met with an accident in the (‘hrislchurch limit ing field and broke his collarbone, is rapidly recovering. Sister Frances Torlesse (Christchurch). who went Home to England recently. has benefited by the voyage, and is now residing at Shot termill, near Hasel mere. .Miss Tendall, principal. of the Girls’ College, XeLsoji, resigned. We understand Miss Tendall has received a good appointment in Melbourne. Dr.. Mrs and Miss Batchelor (Dunedin). spent last Friday in Christchurch, eu route for Australia. Av lie re the doctor will attend the Medical Congress. Mrs. Donnelly (Hawke’s Bay). Mr. and Mrs. Barclay (Otahuna). Mr. F. Perry, amt Dr. and Mrs. W. Perry (Wellington). are Staying with Mr. and Mrs. George Rhodes at "Elmwood, Papanuiroad, Christchurch. Mr Gifford Moore. Mr C. A. Loughnan (Palmerston North). Mr \\. IMiarazyn (Napier). Mr F. J. Watt. Air Gordon llodgis. Mr 11. White (Hawke’s Bay), Mr C. F. Ballance, ami Mr and Mrs S. E. Rutherford (Grassmere) were in Christchurch for the festivities. Great regret is expressed by the members of the Christchurch Liedertafel in parting with Mr. Barkas. who has been promoted to the managership of the New Zealand Loan and •Mercantile office at .Wellington. Mr. Barkas has lieen a member of the Christchurch Liedertafel for many years. He has served on the committee for a long time, amt has taken considerable interest in its organisation. It is rumoured that Mr. Edgar Stead will be leaving C'liristchurch in a few months’ time, in order to take au electrical engineering course in New York. At present he is a student at Canterbury College. At the recent meeting of the Science Congress hold iu Dunedin, he distinguished himself by reading his papers, and giving illustrations of ife st tidies of New Zealand birds.
