Great regret is expressed by the members of the Christchurch Liedertafel in parting with Mr. Barkas. who has been promoted to the managership of the New Zealand Loan and •Mercantile office at .Wellington. Mr. Barkas has lieen a member of the Christchurch Liedertafel for many years. He has served on the committee for a long time, amt has taken considerable interest in its organisation. It is rumoured that Mr. Edgar Stead will be leaving C'liristchurch in a few months’ time, in order to take au electrical engineering course in New York. At present he is a student at Canterbury College. At the recent meeting of the Science Congress hold iu Dunedin, he distinguished himself by reading his papers, and giving illustrations of ife st tidies of New Zealand birds.
