CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee. Muy 17. Lord Plunket. acccnqsinieil by Lady Plunket, the Hon. Kathleen Plunket and Capt. Braithwaite, motored out to Burnham on Monday, and visited the Industrial School. In the evening Lord Plunket was present at the Savage Club “korero.” and gave some sketches of real Irish life, which. I am sure, though not present, were as inimitable as he can be. Golf has been one of the amusements of the week both at Hagley Park and Shirley links, and on Saturday a bogey match of mixed foursomes took place at Shirley. A delicious afternoon tea was provided by the gentlemen. Air Borthwick gave a very pretty silver frame as a prize to the lady who with her partner scored the highest. Airs Denniston and Mr Denham came first. Airs Al. Campbel] and Air J. Wood second. A very pleasant little dance was given by Airs G. F. Alartin and her daughters, Holly-road, St. Albans, on Thursday evening. The rooms were beautifully decorated with chrysanthemums and autumn foliage, and the verandah lighted with Chinese lanterns. Aliss Scrivenor supplied most excellent music, and an altogether enjoyable time was spent. The guests were quite among the juveniles, and included the Alisses Anderson (2), Thompson, D. Parsons, Humphreys, Kitson, D. Aleares, Wilding, Kettle. Bloxam, A. Simpson, Alessrs. Deacon, Wilding, Harper, Fryer, Thompson, Loughnan. Bloxam, Alurray, etc.,

The Alisses Anderson, Armagh-street, gave a very enjoyable evening for their young friends on Wednesday, when pit was the attraction. Among those present were the Alisses' Anderson (Opawa), C. Wilding. C. Kettle, I. Prins, L. Kitson, A. Simpson, 1. Reeee, A. Williams, D. Aleares, A. Humphries, E. Thompson, Alessrs. Anderson (3), Lough nan. Wilding, Reece, Thompson, Tonks Williams, and several others.

Aliss Humphreys gave a progressive pit party at her residence. Fendalton, on Thursday afternoon, with' two prizes, a

set of silver buttons, and a silver but-ton-hook. The winners were Aliss Denniston and Miss Meares. A delicious afternoon tea was served, which seemed doubly delicious after such an exhausting game. Among the players were the Misses Denniston. Prins, Devenish-” Meares, Secretan, Molyneux, Anderson, Ensor, Campbel), Wilson, Gossett, Inman, Kettle, Nancarrow, and others.

The Christchurch branch of the Navy League seems very much alive just now, and gave a very enjoyable conversazione in the Provincial Council Chambers on Friday evening, at which His Excellency the Governor, Lady Plunket, the Hon. Kathleen Plunket, and Captain Braithwaite were present. Lady Plunket wore a lovely gown of pale grey chiffon over satin and iridescent trimming, diamond tiara and ornaments; the Hon. Kathleen Plunket, white satin and silver sequined chifl'on.

One scarcely likes to think of how long ago “Patience” was first given in Christchurch. It seems in the days of our grandmothers, but we all looked forward to its production again, and enjoyed it too. old-fashioned though it may be. The theatre was crowded. Some of those present were Air and Airs A. E. G. Rhodes, Air C. M. Gray, Airs and Miss Gray, Mr R. A 1.,. Airs and Aliss Macdonald, Aliss AVells, Air and Airs J. H. Beswick. Mrs James Alills, Airs and Aliss Kettle, Afr and Airs Wardrop, Air and Airs Chamberlain, Air and Aliss Humphreys. Airs and Aliss Symes, Airs and Miss Hennah, Misses Denniston (2), Kitson, Mills. Nancarrow, Staveley, Alartin, Air and Airs Staveley, Air and Mrs Wood.

DOLLY VALE.
