MARLBOROUGH.

Dear Bee, February 6. A goodly number of excursionists went off last Wednesday to Pieton. to join the S.S. Waitohi in a trip down the Sound. They went to Kahikatea, ami enjoyed themselves immensely. A good haul of fish rewarded the sportsmen of the party, and all returned by evening train sunburnt and happy. The Rev. W. State, of Havelock, has purchased an oil launch to visit his parishoners in the furthest corners ami inlets of the Pelorus Sound. The boat is to be called the “Selwyn” in memory of the famous Bishop of that name. These aggressive little sea farers ply about the Sounds in a most wonderful manner, ami take the same duties on the water that motor-cars do on shore in the way of social amenities. Afternoon teas are now quite an institution in the Marlborough Sounds. A match between the “Awarua” (Spring Creek), and ’‘Waitohi” (Picton). public tennis clubs took place on Saturday at the Spring Creek courts, and it was altogether an enjoyable affair: the “VVaitohis” winning by only nine points. Afternoon tea was provided by the home team, ami a good many spectators wore present. The members of the Awarua Club playing in the match were Mrs Valentine, Misses M. and 1. Cresswell. Robinson. Wollstein*. Gam* and Messrs Gane. Robinson. tV right. Cox. tresswell. Dodson, and Valentine. The Waitohi team consisted of Mesdames Nicol. Riddell, Misses Cragg. Young. Price. Fuller. A presentation was made in the Presbyterian Sunday School on Monday evening, of an armchair to Mrs Lloyd, and a gold watch to Miss Flora Lloyd for services they rendered to the church. For forty years past Mrs Lloyd has been a most energetic worker in every way possible for the church, ami of late years Miss Flora Lloyd, who is very musical, has taken over the whole musical portion of the services in church ami Sunday-School, and the congregation thought it was high time that some public acknowledgement of their services should be made. The chair was a very handsome one, and a large silver plate with an inscription adorned it. Miss Lloyd’s beautiful gold watch also bore a suitable inscription inside the dover. and on the back was the recipient’s monogram. Tea. coffee, ami refreshments were handed round, and a short programme was rendered. Afterwards there was the presentation of prizes to the children of the SundaySchool. A picnic party of Picton folk hired an oil launch and spent a pleasant day at Little Kahikatea on Wednesday, fishing and fern i ng. Those present were: —• Mesdames C. Philpotts, Wright, Stow, Macalister. Kelly. Allen. Riddell. Misses Seymour (2). Wright. Western (2), Lorimer. White. Macalister, Messrs. Wright (2), and Stow. The Hon. C. H. Mills and his private secretary. Mr ( row. are in Marlborough looking up matters in connection with the coining election.
