MARLBOROUGH.

Dear Bee, December 20. The distribution of prizes at the High School this year, which was an exceedingly smart affair, was held in Wesley Hall. His Worship the Mayor (Air. W. H. Macey) occupied the chair, and the prizes were presented by Mr Justice Cooper.

The Orchestral Society gave a Concert in St. Andrew’s Hall on Thursday evening, at which there was a fairly good attendance. The society, of course, did the principal instrumental work, and the vocal parts were rendered by Air. Oir, who sang “The Message”; Miss Turner, “When I Awake”; Air J. Rose, “The Pain of Parting”; Afiss F. Alonison, “While All the Work! is Sleeping”: Air F. Ball. “I Fear No Foe.” A pianoforte solo, “Rhapsodic Hongroise,” by Airs W. Allen, was much appreciated. Air R.

Logan conducted the orchestra, which was led by Airs Edwards, and Aliss AleCube was an able pianiste. The Seddon School Excursion to Picton, and thence down the Sound to Double Bay in the launch Waitohi, was a great success and most enjoyable, though showers of rain somewhat damped matters.

A Concert at the Okaramio Hall in aid of an instrument for the use of the school was organised by the teacher, Mrs Thorp, rind was well carried out, and proved a financial success. The Picton Collegiate School prizes were presented this year by Miss Allen, M.A., principal of the school, and afterwards a school picnic and sports were held at Double Bay, where children and grown-ups alike enjoyed themselves. An Afternoon Tea, given by Mrs. Baillie and Mrs Wolff, at the Federal Hotel, was a very pleasant ctfl’air. The teatable was out on the baleony overlooking the bay, and as several old residents were present, “Old times,” was the principal topic of conversation. Among those present were Mesdames Allen, IL C. Seymour, Rutherford, Riddell, Craeroft, Philpotts, and Misses Robinson, Speed, Allen, and the Hon. Captain Baillie. [
