WIIE EMANCIPATION OF THE SEX. NAPIER, Monday. At a special general meeting of the Napier Rowing Club a proposal to form a Ladies' Club in connection with the Napier abed was carried by a large majority.

STAB CLUB’S DOUBLE SCULLS. WELLINGTON, Monday. Sereral heats ot the Star Club's senior double sculls were rowed ou Saturday over the southerly course. Good racing resulted, but the strong breeze prevailing during the earlier part ot the afternoon raised a choppy sea, which proved rather disconcerting to the contestants. In the first heat C. E. Dowland and T. It. Hickson won by two lengths from A. D. Bayfield and W. K. Hackworth. E. Pickering and F. A. Barclay had a “row over” in the second heat, Evatt's crew pulling back to the skids with a broken scull. A good race resulted between J. Hughes and A. E. Cossar and W. I’. C. Oswin and N. K. Smyth, the former crew finishing barely a length ahead. A win for It. L. Evatt and E. A. Kllllck, who defeated 11. Hitching and F. GUI by three lengths, concluded the afterYACHT RACES AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Monday. The second handicap race for first-class boats of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club brought only two competitors to the post. Mr A. H. Turnbull’s Aorangi (scratch) finished the distance tn tihrs 2mtn BOsec. Her opponent, Waitangi, which was conceded a handicap ot fimlii, took shrs 22mln losec to complete the course. Mr E. Bucholz’s Marital and Mr It. Brewer’s Talparl being the only entrants for the second and third class events respectively, those boats sailed over their courses.
