Dear Bee, August 27. A Mo.-T ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON TEA Was given by Airs Capel last Tuesday afternoon in honour bf Miss J. Lawson, who is shortly to be married. A delightful and dainty afternoon tea was • served in JJie dining-room, the table

being prettily decorated with spring bulbs. Great-amusement was caused by a “Yes and No” Competition. As the guests assembled in the drawingroom they were given a little bug of beans, with the instructions they must not say either “Yes” or “No” to any question that was put to them; if they <iid they must forfeit a bean. The one who didn’t lose a bean got the prize. Mrs Capel received her guests in a handsome blaek spotted grenadine, trimmed with lace; Aliss Capel, black merveilleux blouse, relieved with cream lace, black skirt; Aliss S. Capel, very pretty pale blue silk voile, tucked and faggotted; Miss Capel, pink inerveilleux with eream luce yoke; Aliss M. Capel, Wedgwood blue voile, trimmed with cream insertion; Aliss Webster, dove-grey voile, trimmed with stitched silk, black hat with pink roses; Aliss L. Webster, very pretty blue voile, tucked and shirred, finished with eream lace.: Aliss Lawson, black sun-rayed voile skirt, cream and pale pink flowered velvet blouse, pretty blue and cream hat; Miss I’aul. cream blouse, blaek voile skirt, seal jacket, cream and gold hat; Miss Thomson, lovely shade of green satin blouse, daintily tucked, blaek skirt, hat trimmed with green; Miss B. Thomson, spotted black voile costume, green jacket and hat; Aliss Carthew, navy eoat and skirt, hat relieved with red: Miss G. Moore, brown coat and skirt, hat on suite; Aliss Standish, pale blue costume, cream hat with foliage; Airs W. Humphries, black and white flecked costume; Aliss Humphries, black costume, cream silk vest: Miss 11. Humphries, blue.y-grey flecked costume, black picture hat; Miss Hawken, navy blue costume, trimmed with cream point lace insertion, smart red hat: Aliss J. Hawken. grey lustre, trimjned with cream insertion, black hat: Miss Mackay, brown costume, hat ea AL Perry (Gisborne), grey costume, hat to match; Miss E. Fookes, dark grey flecked costume, scarlet hat; Alias O. King, dark green coat and skirt with cream satin facings, white felt hat, trimmed with green and pale blue: Miss Al. Percy (Gisborne), grey costume, trimmed with stitched silk, black hat. The Taranaki Choral Festival Association held their fourth annual service in St. Mary's Church, last Thursday evening, but owing to inclemency of the weather the church was not so full as was expected. The Ven. Archdeacon Cole preached. The service was intoned by the Rev. Herbert Reeves, of Inglewood; and the Other clergy .who took part were the Revs. F, G. Evans. F. W. Young (Okato) and C. A. Watson (Stratford). In the choir there were representatives' from Inglewood, Ijepperton. Tataraimaka and Okato. Mr A. E. Fletcher presided at the organ.
