MARLBOROUGH.

Dear Bee, May 31. The very inclement weather on Empire Day resulted in the putting off until June 3rd of the ceremony of unveiling the monument at Tua Marina. On Thursday afternoon the Rev. A. H. Sedgwiek and Mrs. Sedgwick, who are leaving the district next Monday on a trip to England, were entertained at Koromiko. Captain Dalton, who spoke on behalf of the residents, expressed their regret at the vicar’s illness, and hoped that he would return at the end of the twelve mouths rejuvenated. He then presented Mr. Sedgwiek with a silver matchbox, and Mrs. Sedgwiek with a well-filled turtleskin purse. Mrs. Aves, the oldest resident in the district, presented them, with a handsome mat made by herself. Mr. Sedgwiek thanked the residents for their gifts and for the many kindnesses he and

Mrs. Sedgwiek had received during their eighteen years’ sojourn among them. On Friday evening a farewell social for the Vicar and Mrs. Sedgwick was held in the Anglican Sunday-school, Picton. It was largely attended by people of all denominations. During the evening Mr. Howard, on behalf of the choir and the congregation, wished Mr. ami Mrs, Sedgwick a good voyage and a quick return, and expressed the sorrow felt by all on account of Mr. Sedgwick’s serious illness. The vicar thanked his parishioners and those present for their kindness, and said that he would not wish them good bye except in its best sense, “God be with you," for he hoped to be spared to continue his work in the district.

The Vicar and Mrs. Sedgwick's old friends, the choir and Sunday-school children have presented them with a few comforts for the voyage—these taking the form of a comfortable chair, cushions,

rugs, etc.

MIRANDA.
