NAPIER.

Dear Bee, June 3. I The Napier Sailing Club CAVE A BALL in the Theatre Royal on the 27th ult. Mrs. Gebbie's band was in attendance, and played charming dance music. Extras were played by Hrs. Baxter and Miss Goldsmith. The grand march was led by Mrs. 8. Riddell, wife of the club’s captain, and Mr. R. Pullet, president. Mrs. Riddell looked remarkably well in a beautiful dress of pale pink satin, the bodice elaborately trimmed with handsome ecru lace, and a ehou of pink chiffon was becomingly arranged in her hair. Amongst the prettiest dresses were those of Miss Humphries, who wore a handsome gown of cream accor-dion-pleated chiffon over white silk, long sleeves of the same chiffon; Miss Burke, who looked extremely well in black velvet and white lace; Miss Ella Burke, stylish gown of black net, with pink roses becomingly arranged on the bodice: Mrs. Baxter, black and white: Miss Goldsmith looked exceedingly dainty in pale green chiffon over white silk, trimmed with roses of a delicate shade of pink, and innumerable inchings of green chiffon round the edge of the skirt; Mrs. Stedman was in black; Miss Cornford, pretty dress of pale blue soft silk, the bodice trimmed with pale blue chiffon, and chon of pale blue chiffon in her hair; Miss Madge llindmarsh wore a most becoming gown of soft white silk, much trimmed with accordionpleated chiffon; Miss Scott (Christchurch) also wore a white silk dross, which suited her to perfection; Miss Chapman, black and pale blue; Miss Brabant, handsome gown of black silk and lace, with red poppies on the bodice; Miss McLenhon wore blue; Miss Myra Williams was in cream; Miss Fannin, white silk and lace. Among the gentlemen were: Messrs. Broad. Riddell, Cornford, Stedman. Von Dadelzen. Raymond. Brandpn, Rochfort, Kennedy, Cotterill, Humphries, etc. > Mr Mel. B. Spurr gave the first of his pleasant entertainments at the Theatre ivoyai on the 2nd inst. Mrs Edgar was present in a becoming toilette of pale blue silk trimmed with passementerie; Mr* Kinross White wore black net over silk and a large chon of pale blue silk on the bodice; her sister, Miss Allan, in a pretty costume of pale pink silk relieved with white chiffon: Mrs Stedman, in black; Mrs Brabant, maize-coloured gown, handsome opera cloak of heliotrope brocade; Miss Brabant, cream dress much trimmed with lace; Mrs Kettle, pink silk blouse and dark skirt; Mrs Wenley, black net costume with silver embroidery, cream silk and brown velvet opera cloak; Mrs De Lisle wore black and pink: Miss Russell looked well in pale pink crepe de chine with rosettes of black velvet on the bodice; Mrs Ronald was in black; Mrs Riddell also wore a handsjome black dress; Miss Arnie Kennedy, becoming blouse of pale blue silk, dark skirt; Miss Dulcie Kennedy, white blouse and black skirt; Miss Hovel!, white dress much trimmed with silver, cream cloth opera coat: Mils B. Nairn, black and white dress trimmed with silver embroidery; Mrs Martin, handsome dress of black silk with white lace on the bodiee; Miss Martin, becoming cream costume and an opera cloak of the same colour edged with swansdown; Miss Todd was in pink; Miss Dean wore white and pale blue. Mr 11. G. .Sparkman gave a successful concert at St. Augustine's Hall on the Ist. inst. Trios by Mesdames Peacock and Natuseh. Miss Clark, Messrs 11. G. and C. R. Spaekman and Herr Lehmann formed a feature of the evening. I.ochncr’s “Andante and Allegro,” “Polonaise” (Trauselle), and one of Beethoven's compositions were the pieces selected. Miss King’s solos, “It was a Dream,” by Yassen. and “Good-bye ' (Tosti) were greatly applauded. Mrs Poolman sang “The Dream of Paradise” «nd “The Dawn of Redemption,” the audience showing their appreciation by insisting on an encore. Mr Ellis' song. “Mona,” by 8. Adams, was good, and his encore number created tnuclt amusement.
