MARLBOROUGH.

Dear Bee, Maj - 23. Mr W. T. Erskine, for fifteen years Town Clerk of Havelock, has resigned that position. At a gathering held in the Public Library last week he was presented with a silver salver and tea senice in recognition of his services to the town.

Tl»e Blenheim Garrison Band returned from Marton on Monday. The band was placed third in the test selection competition, and Bandsman Tunnieliffe won the bass solo competition. The buildings for the Marlborough Exhibition are to bo erected in Seymour Square. Much of the material is already on the ground.

Three pictures have been presented to the Blenheim Library, and much improve the appearance of the rooms. These are an enlarged photograph of the late Dr. Cleghorn, presented by Mrs Cleghorn; an enlarged photographic view of the Awatere Bridge, presented by Mr W. H. Macey; and an oil painting of West Coast scenery, presented by Mr J. B. Rayner.

The Misses Philpotts, Pieton, gave a “handkerchief tea’’ for Miss E. Seymour prior to her marriage, which takes place early in June. Among those present were Mesdanies Philpotts, H. Harris, Riddell, Wolff, Mitchell, and Seymour, and the Misses Philpotts (4), E. Seymour, Greensill (2), Western (2), Roberts, Harris (2), Chaytor, Allen (2). On Friday afternoon a “kitchen tea’’ was given to Miss E. Seymour by some of her friends. Much amusement was caused during the afternoon by a “personality” game. Those present were:

Mesdames Sedgwick. Western. Fell. Redman, Stow, Philjmttn, C. FfcHpottw, Howard, Smith, Speed, Gillies, Maealister, and Tbonqwon, and tile Misses E. Seymour, Allen (2), Western (2), Greenaill (3). Philpotts (3), Robert-, Maea lister, Chsytor, and Harris 12).

Miss Belle Napier is at present giving recitals in tins district. Ou Monday uight she appeared at Pieton. but the audience was so small that site wax obliged to cut a great many items out of Iter programme. Those that slw gave were, however, much appreciated. The smallness of the audience was due to the bad weather and lack of sufficient advertising. On Wednesday ■ Miss Napier will give a recital in Blenheim. To-day we were nil to be present at Massacre Hill, Tua Marina, to witness the unveiling of the monument erected to the memory of the soldiers from this district who lost their lives during the Boer War. The weather is. however, so bad that the ceremony will doubtless be postponed. Quite a number of people paid a short visit to Wellington last week, among them Mr and Mrs John t'onolly and Miss Gard (Blenheim), Mr and Mrs Richardson, Mr and Mrs Riddell (Picton), and Mr and Mrs Henry Harris (Pelorus Sound).
