AUCKLAND.

Dear Bee, April S. The main event of this week and the end of last has, of course, been THE AUTUMN MEETING OF THE AUCKLAND RACING CLUB AT ELLERSLIE. On Saturday I really began to ask myself if people are beginning to get a little tired of racing, for the crowd on the lawn and on the grandstand was smaller than I ever seem to remember it under similar conditions of weather, the day being perfect. It was, however, very comfortable, there being oceans cf room on the stand, and no chance of having one’s seats jumped if one went for a stroll on the lawn. Moreover, I have seldom seen the lawn, course, and general surroundings looking better. The vivid green of the sward was really beautiful, and the caretaker had the grass in perfect order. The music was good, and the catering above reproach. The luncheon arrangements were particularly good, the menu being liberal and the service excellent. A good number of ladies do not, however, patronise the lunch, and have asked me to suggest that sandwiches "might be placed on the afternoon tea-tables at a small extra charge per head, say 3d. or fid. Cakes, however good, do not satisfy when one is out for all day, and it is not everyone can afford, say, four shillings a head for a meal. Now for some of the dresses.
