The Pacific Cable.

AUCKLAND HEAD QUARTERS OF THE IRIS. Mr J. H. Witheford, received the following telegram from the Premier last week: “Have just received the following communication from the Agent-General: ‘London, December 30 —lf--If you think it desirable the Board proposes to make Auckland the headquarters for the Iris, subject to satisfactory arrangements for a suitable site and other matters T anticipate that the Harbour Board will help us in this matter, and that the necessary site and land for landing cables can be arranged. It will be a great advantage to have Auckland made the headquarters of the Iris in place of Fiji. I will communicate later on with the Harbour Board authorities.—R. J. Seddon.”
