WANGANUI.

Dear Bee, December 24. 1 have not much news to tell you this week as there has been a great dearth of social functions, and a general exodus of Wanganui people for the Christinas holidays. On this account there was not a very large attendance at the tennis courts on Saturday. Afternoon tea was provided by Miss Griffiths, assisted by Mix Winnie Griffiths from Wellington. Ou Thursday, December 17. the first review of the battalion of cadets in connection with the Wanganui schools Mok place on Victoria Park- The corps paraded under Major Aitken, and were inspected by the Right Hon. R. J. Soddon and Colonel Loveday, who arrived that afternoon from Wellington. The turn out was a very creditable one. The march past to the music of the drum and bugle band was executed in a faultless manner, and showed that a great deal of time and trouble must have been devoted to their drill. In the evening the annual prize-giving took ]daee in the Opera House under the patronage of the Right Hon. the Premier, who distributed the prizes and gave an address. The entertainment concluded with a concertOn Saturday aft -moon a most enjoyable time was spent by some of the members of the Old Girls’ College Association. A parly hired the steam launch and went up the M anganui River. It was a perfect day for a picnic. The Wanganui Ladies’ Club has been closed owing to the premises having been let to the newly-formed Commercial Travellers* Club. Its loss will be felt by its many former members, particularly the country ones, who in the past have found it a very great convenience. 1 am very pleased to say we are not losing Miss Cameron. as she has taken that commodious residence of Mr Parker’s opposite the Collegiate School as a boardinghouse, which she has aptly named “Wharenui’’ (large house). It contains over 22 large rooms, all beautifully furnished-
