Dear Bee, October 8. THE SPRING MEETING of the Wanganui Jockey Club has ever been a popular fixture, and judging by the attendance the 1903 meeting was no exception to the rule. Great interest was centred in the fact that His Excellency the Governor, Eord Ranfurly, Lady Constance Knox, and Lord Northland, were present for the first day’s racing. The lawn was graced by an unusually large number of ladies, who wore costumes of more than usual magnificence. Ou .Saturday, 3rd October, Lord Ranfurly and suite were entertained by the Mayor anil Mayoress (Mr and Mrs Hatrick) at an

ENCCRHON ON THE RIVER. The Mantiwai was beautifully decorated with nikau palms and other greenery, the railings of the upper deck being hung with exquisite -sprays of clematis. The saloon Mas a perfect bower, the sides being draped with lyeopodium with a wealth of lovely narcissi tastefully arranged in the pretty creeper. The table was adorned with over 1000 blooms of various varieties of the same spring flowers*, and laden with the most tempting delicacies. The steamer left the wharf about 10 o'clock, ami proceeded as far as Raorakia, His Excellency having expressed a wish to see the historic “Kemp's Pole.” During the excursion an efficient orchestra rendered a number of musical selections.
