OBITUARY.

The death is announced of Mrs. Hood, wife of Captain Hood, formerly of the lluddart-Parker Company, and now harbourmaster at New Plymouth. MR C. A. HARRIS. Mr Christopher Atwell Harris died at his residence, Jermyn-street, Auckland, on September 8. Mr Harris was a well-known figure in Auckland. He was the only surviving son of the late Mr C. A. Harris, and was born about 60 years ago in Carleton Gore-road. The widow of the late Mr Jas. Macfarlane is a sister of the deceased, who was unmarried. For many years Mr C. A. Harris was connected with the timber' industry, and spent a great portion of his time at mills in bushes. 'While at Whangapoua Mr Harris went in for prospecting. and when the mining boom started, about seven years ago. he nt once went into the business. He conceived, or at

all events carried out, the idea of floating a company in London with capital sufficient to erect large pumping machinery, and sink the Queen of Beauty shaft to test the Thames low levels. Mr Harris was successful in his efforts in so far as floating the company, and he was also connected with other mining ventures.
